ABOUT THE ROLE
Structural Engineers are responsible for the structural design, analysis, and code compliance of residential manufactured homes, modular housing, and commercial modular buildings. This position develops engineered structural solutions that meet applicable federal, state, and local building codes while supporting manufacturing operations, drafting, and product development. The engineer collaborates with internal teams, regulatory agencies, and third-party code enforcement organizations.
Engineers holding an active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license will review and seal engineering documents, calculations, and structural details as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design structural systems and components for residential manufactured housing, modular homes, and commercial modular buildings.
  • Perform structural analysis and engineering calculations for gravity, wind, seismic, snow, and other applicable loading conditions.
  • Develop and maintain structural design standards, engineering manuals, calculation templates, and design details.
  • Review architectural and engineering plan sets to ensure compliance with applicable building codes and company engineering standards.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local building regulations and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with AutoCAD programmers and drafting personnel to implement structural design standards and improve engineering workflows.
  • Provide technical guidance and answer structural design questions from manufacturing plants, drafting staff, purchasing, and other departments.
  • Coordinate with county, state, federal, and third-party code enforcement agencies regarding design approvals, inspections, and code interpretations.
  • Conduct engineering audits within manufacturing facilities to verify compliance with approved designs, engineering standards, and quality requirements.
  • Investigate production or field issues and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Support product development initiatives, value engineering efforts, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, reports, specifications, and supporting documentation.
  • Engineers possessing an active Professional Engineer license will review, approve, and seal structural calculations, details, and engineering documents where required.
  • Very occasional travel (less than 10%) may be required to manufacturing facilities, customer sites, regulatory agencies, or industry meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICIATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited U.S. college or university.
  • Understanding of structural analysis and engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of wood, and light-frame construction methods.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, architectural plans, and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency using engineering software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Experience designing manufactured housing, modular housing, or commercial modular buildings.

Required Technical Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of applicable engineering codes and standards, including but not limited to:
  • ASCE 7 - Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures
  • 24 CFR Part 3280 - Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards (MHCSS)
  • National Design Specification (NDS) for Wood Construction
  • International Residential Code (IRC)
  • International Building Code (IBC)
  • ASCE 32 - Design and Construction of Frost-Protected Shallow Foundations
  • Other engineering standards and codes as required by project or jurisdiction
