Job description

The Department of Neurology in collaboration with The Virtual Department at Houston Methodist, welcomes applicants to apply for the position of Telestroke Neurovascular Nocturnist.

This is an excellent virtual opportunity to join a premier Neurology Program and leading hospital.  For 13 years, US News and World Report has consistently ranked Houston Methodist as the #1 Hospital System in Texas and the Neurology program is nationally ranked #11.

The acute nocturnal services encompass stroke coverage to the Houston Methodist regional sites with a combination of comprehensive and primary stroke centers with a robust ER presence strategically located throughout the Houston area.

Houston Methodist Stroke Division:

The Eddy Scurlock Stroke Center, the first DNV-accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center in the nation, is comprised of 6 vascular neurologists, 2 stroke fellows, and 6 dedicated stroke nurse practitioners. In collaboration with hospital and clinic care, the stroke team provides telestroke services to approximately 3,000 additional patients annually. An additional 7 vascular neurologists provide on-site neurohospitalist and back up telestroke coverage across the system.

Position Details:

  • Flexible Schedule: 160-180 shifts

  • Primary Responsibility: Hyperacute stroke management via Telestroke (TNK, ICH, LVO)

  • Hours:  4pm-7am; 7a-7a weekends/holidays

  • Strong neuroimaging diagnostic and virtual stroke evaluation with time-critical care delivery

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enhanced virtual care skills

  • Ability to work well in a team and collaborate with other healthcare professionals across a system

Qualified Candidates:

  • Completed Neurology residency

  • Fellowship training in Vascular Neurology with exposure to Telestroke/Teleneurology

  • Eligible for a Texas medical license or currently hold a Texas medical license in good standing

  • Strong interests in academic missions, including high-quality clinical care, education, and research

  • Candidates must reside in TX, LA, FL, TN or WA.
