Job description

Strategy Associate

Location: San Francisco, CA

Reports To: Sr. Consultant

Salary Range: $104,000 - $134,000 Annually

Position Summary 

As the Strategy Associate at IEM, you will play a supporting role in shaping and executing the strategic initiatives of the organization. This position reports to the Strategy Consultant under the Chief of Staff and involves working on projects tied to senior leadership to drive long-term value creation and enhance the company's competitive position in the power distribution and switchgear market.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Work directly with Strategy Consultant to conduct market research and analysis on both the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Data Center markets with respect to IEM's interests
  • Track competitive intelligence and industry research to identify competitive trends, industry headwinds and tailwinds, product developments, and market sizing
  • Track and report on industry news, analyst reports and relevant publications related to customers, competitors and the overall industry
  • Assist in the creation of board materials, financial models, and ad hoc requests from the senior leadership team and Board of Directors
  • Gather, monitor, and analyze business performance against established metrics, identifying areas for improvement and optimization
  • Supports Strategy Consultant managing day to day operations and communications, especially preparation and facilitation of internal and external communications with employees, investors and the Board
  • Assists in identifying, validating, and providing due diligence on M&A targets from competitors as well as opportunities for potential inorganic market expansion for IEM
  • Performs other duties as required by supervisor

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in management consulting, investment banking, corporate strategy, operations or similar role where structuring ambiguous problems, using data to tackle those problems, and communicating the results to executives were key
  • Ability to conduct market research and synthesize insights to drive overall business thinking and strategy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make strategic recommendations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization

Compensation actually offered for this role will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
