Job Location: Bluffton, IN

Summary:

Lead the overall success of plant operations pertaining to the satisfaction of team member safety, customer service levels and quality expectations including the supporting management of production, scheduling, training, and continuous improvement departments / initiatives.

 

In addition, the Operations Manager:

  • Continually improve safety records by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes
  • Lead the planning, organizing, and directing the production and scheduling operations to ensure the highest levels of efficiency and quality are met.
  • Lead plans and processes which minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital.
  • Lead the effort in attainment of business objectives and production schedules while ensuring product standards that will exceed our customers' expectations.
  • Implement manufacturing strategies and action plans to ensure that the facility supports Hershey's Salty Snacks strategic initiatives.
  • Manage spending against budget and in relation to changes in production volume.
  • Assure that rules and regulations are effectively administered.
  • Maintain and improve housekeeping in all areas.
  • Maintain individual skills keeping up to date with the latest production and production management concepts, including OSHA and PCQI trainings.
  • Work in collaboration with teams on improvement projects including capital investments, process improvements, etc.
  • Drive lean initiatives and be the main advocate for continuous improvement culture.
  • Drive plant training department objectives
  • Participate and support HARPC, Food Safety, Food Defense, Internal Auditor, and Safety Committee programs.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in implementing and/or adhering to 3rd party audits and certifications (AIB, ISO, BRC, and SQF)
  • HACCP and/or PCQI certification
  • Formal Lean and Six-Sigma Training including successful demonstration of implementation in a manufacturing environment.
  • OSHA certification or training
  • Mechanical skills or experience to maximize efficiencies of highly automated facility.

Minimum Requirements and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (Business Management, Engineering, etc.) preferred.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing leadership experience managing 100+ employees on multiple shift operations.
  • 3+ years managing in a process manufacturing environment.   
  • 2+ years' experience in a food processing plant, specifically baking.
