Description:
BASIC FUNCTION: The basic function of the Assistant Manager is to support the Store Manager in the daily operations of a retail store. Your role is to supervise employees, work with customers and help carry out the directives of the Store Manager and District Supervisor. You will ensure that store personnel provide exceptional customer service.
Responsibilities
a. The assistant manager is directly responsible and accountable to the store manager. The assistant manager is to carry out responsibilities along with or in the absence of the store manager.
b. To be professional at all times.
c. Responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of the store, providing effective leadership for all personnel.
d. Have exceptional communication skills with customers, personnel and the store manager. Must have a professional, helpful and friendly attitude at all times.
e. When doing paperwork and/or the deposit, be responsible for controlling the cash accuracy of the deposit and for the accuracy and timely preparation of all reports. No unauthorized persons should handle the deposit or go to the bank. (BANK DEPOSITS TO THE BANK NO LATER THAN 10:00AM, REPORTS SHOULD BE DONE & SENT TO THE OFFICE NO LATER THAN 12:00PM). If there is a problem your manager or supervisor should be notified.
f. Adhere to the store budget in coordination with the store manager. (NO UNAUTHORIZED PURCHASES) YOUR MANAGER SHOULD BE AWARE OF ANY PAID OUTS.
g. Assist the store manager for inventory control. This includes maintaining all inventories at adequate levels. Reporting inventory or cash discrepancies to the store manager or district supervisor IMMEDIATELY.
Requirements:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS REQUIRED:
• You will be required to have exceptional communication skills: Communicating with customers, Fellow Team Players, and Management 100% of the shift.
• You will be required to be in full uniform 100% of the shift.
• You will be required to be able to stand 95 to 100% of the shift.
• You will be required to be able to walk 75 to 80% of the shift. Going from one transaction area to another and while doing cleaning.
• You will be required to be able to lift and carry 15 to 45 lbs while filling products in cooler, setting up displays and putting away stock.
• You will be required to be able to do kneeling, bending at waist, and reaching.
• You will be required to have normal hearing ability for good customer care.
• You will be required to go outside to pump gas, empty trash, empty grease, clean lot.
• You will be required to have acute seeing in order to watch all activity in and out of the store.
• You will be required to understand and carry out oral instructions.
• You will be required to read and carry out simple written instructions.
• You will be required to read cleaning lists, schedules, shift sheets, tank readings, lottery tickets, food handling procedures and various other reports.
• You will be required to read and verify numbers, labels, temperatures, etc.
• You will be required to observe and read many different kinds of convenience store equipment.
• You will be required to prepare reports, such as shift sheets, damage reports, attendance, incident, food tracking sheets, etc.
• You will be required to have good mathematic skills for counting and handling cash and credit cards.
• You will be required to have exceptionally good mental ability to handle many different kinds of dispositions.
• You will be required to operate and understand basic technical devices such as point of sale equipment, and handheld computer devices.

Specific Duties
The duties of the assistant manager include, but are not limited to the following:
a. Coordinate and participate in all activities of the store to including providing assistance to the manager by supervising and directing store personnel.
b. Wear required uniform and be neat in appearance. Wear closed toed, rubber sole, non-slip shoes with socks. May not wear nose rings, lip rings or offensive jewelry of any kind. Assist in ensuring that all personnel adhere to the uniform policy.
c. Operate registers and complete any and all transactions at the register. Train others to operate the register according to policies and procedures. Supervise and motivate all personnel.
d. Assist and complete end of shift check out, run specific end of shift reports. Run tank sticking reports and when necessary manually stick tanks for measurements and detection of water.
e. Merchandise, order, price, display, sell and maintain inventory. Check-in all vendors with hand held device. In the event of a mechanical issue, must know procedure to check in vendors manually.
f. Establish and maintain close communication with the store manager and all store personnel to assure attainment of operational goals and objectives. Train personnel about good sales techniques in order to increase sales.
g. Be aware of and communicate monthly promotions to all personnel in order to attract new customers as well as increase sales.
h. Assist customers with problems or questions and assisting handicap or elderly at the pump islands.
i. Available to work all shifts and must be available to cover shifts or get shifts covered due to last minute call offs.
j. Promote and maintain effective and proper housekeeping practices. Including but not limited to: cleaning the fast food area, shelves, floors, coolers, backrooms, restrooms, windows, equipment, parking lot, etc...
k. Maintain effective working and safety rules. Example: Ladder safety, wet floors, chemical usage, hand washing, glove usage etc...
l. Ensure the security of the store and its contents at all times.
m. Maintain open and effective communication with the corporate office.
n. Use correct policies and procedures when doing price surveys and changing fuel prices. Allow only authorized personnel to change fuel prices.
o. Ensure inventory is controlled and all orders are placed on a timely basis and according to established procedures. Also, ensure that all deliveries are received and documented according to established company policy.
p. Monitor building, lights, lot, equipment, pumps etc... to ensure all is properly maintained and in good working order. Promptly report all needed repairs to the office and fully document when completed.
q. Ensure all store personnel are adhering to the company's money order, pre-paid cards and credit card policies.
r. Ensure all store personnel are adhering to the state and federal carding policy for alcohol and tobacco purchases as well as all other state and federal regulations.
s. Complete all other tasks, assignments and requests required by the store manager.
