Summary
Maintains inventory requirements to ensure that service levels, inventory turnover and distribution of inventory goals are met, which provides efficient use of company resources. Processes system generated and manual material requests for purchase, and expedites deliveries as may be required. Provides information to customers and vendors concerning inquiries for stock-keeping units assigned or system standard purchases. Investigates discrepancies and initiates corrective action to forecasts and distribution requirements based on available stocking plans.
General Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Ordering, receiving and taking inventory of supplies, cable, materials and tools.
  • Selecting, addressing (label) and staging supplies for distribution.
  • Identifying, staging, and preparing all supply material for returns.
  • Maintaining and adjusting supply center stock levels.
  • Interpreting service orders.
  • Performing general office functions, including verifying shipments for accuracy, documenting discrepancies and issuing claims.
  • Performing housekeeping tasks both in the storeroom and outside in the cable yard.
  • Loading and unloading cable reels and trucks, lifting large, heavy, bulky material and equipment, weighing up to 70 lbs.
  • Operating manual or power equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hydraulic lifts, cable cutters and dock plates.
  • Driving a Company vehicle, may be required.
  • Operating a personal computer (PC), handheld terminal and/or scanner to access systems and perform work functions. Performs inventory activity transactions in required support systems.
  • Telephone and face-to-face contact with clients and vendors to respond to or make routine inquiries regarding material shipments and customer requirements.
  • Maintaining records for mechanized order entry and inventory management systems.
  • Interacting with other departments, such as Outside Plant, Purchasing, Engineering and User Technical Staff.
  • Receipts for supplies, perform put-a-way of receipted supplies.
  • Works in MDC, locker, cable yard, storeroom, central office and remote customer locations.
  • Works aloft; climbs ladders and works in confined spaces to accomplish job tasks.
  • Works outside in all types of weather.
  • Wears proper shoes and safety equipment.
  • Actively participates in deployment and general maintenance of inventory systems and associated equipment.
  • Overnight travel is a possibility.
  • May be required to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company.

Basic Qualifications
  • Tests- Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the Company, in accordance with Company policy.

  • Must be able to perform physical requirements of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, including, but not limited to, perceiving differences in wire cable colors,
  • Security background investigation may be required.
  • Where driving is required, a candidate must have a valid state driver's license and satisfactory driving record. Ability to drive manual shift vehicles.
  • Must be available to work scheduled tours designated by the Collective Bargaining Agreement and/or the needs of the business. Associates may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as the needs of the business necessitate. Non-scheduled days will be required as needs of the business necessitate.
  • Must possess good customer service skills, ability to communicate effectively with customers on phone and in person, and handle customer service issues.

Training
Training generally consists of on-the-job training, and safe driving courses, where driving is required. Students are also required to meet training standards in order to be retained in the job.
