The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills, an institution in Los Angeles, opened its doors in 1967 and remains committed to delivering exceptional customer experiences and quality products. We take pride in offering a diverse range of merchandise and creating a welcoming environment for our customers and cafe go-ers. Adding a cafe in 2023 has created a dynamic experience for customers and employees.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable retail salesperson to join our team, specializing in cheese, wine, and specialty food products. In this role, you will engage with customers to provide exceptional service, share product knowledge, and drive sales in our gourmet food store. If you have a passion for artisanal foods, enjoy helping customers discover new flavors, and thrive in a dynamic retail environment, we encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet customers warmly and assist them in selecting products based on their preferences and needs.
  • Provide information about our products to customers over the phone, take & input phone orders with proper paperwork and customer information.
  • Monitor web orders, complete proper paperwork and facilitate fulfillment of orders.
  • Provide expert guidance on cheese and wine pairings, as well as information on specialty food items.
  • Conduct product demonstrations and tastings to showcase our offerings.
  • Maintain a tidy and visually appealing store display of products.
  • Accurately process transactions using cash registers or other electronic devices.
  • Handle customer inquiries, resolve complaints, and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Uphold store standards for cleanliness, organization, and safety.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with restocking shelves and displays as needed with or without being instructed to do so.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve sales goals and targets with direction from the Retail Sales Manager.
  • Stay informed about new products and promotions by having regular contact and check in with our General Manager and Beverage Director.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in retail sales, preferably in a specialty food or gourmet retail environment.
  • Strong knowledge and passion for cheese, wine, and specialty food products.
  • Excellent communication skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certifications related to food and beverage are a plus.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced retail environment with occasional lifting of moderate to heavy items between 10-40 pounds.
  • Able to work with exposure to varying temperatures in the store environment (e.g., refrigerated sections).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with POS systems and cash handling.
  • Certification in food safety or knowledge of food handling best practices.
  • Responsible Beverage Service certification.
