Job description

Title: Next Step Intern
Salary Range: $17/hr
Location: Opportunities are available in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Manhattan
Program Specifications
NSIP is an intensive, full-time, eight-week program that provides individuals with vocational training and on-the-job experience to begin their careers in the homeless services field. Interns will have the opportunity to assist in the day-to-day operations at a shelter supporting the residents. The on-the-job trainings could potentially lead to stable to employment.
Roles available are:
  • Residential Aide -Performs the day-to-day monitoring of the residents' on-site activities. Performs hourly inspections of the facility and immediate neighborhood, and documents/reports any incidents. Assists in the planning and organization of recreational activities, events and outings.
  • Front Desk Attendant -The Front Desk Attendant will be responsible for the general management of the front desk at In Homes Now. This position is Monday to Friday. This position reports to the Office Manager. Answering and directing all incoming calls. Greeting all clients/guests, completing a health screening for all clients/guests, and directing all clients/guests. Assist in monthly mailing to clients.
  • Custodian - Under the general direction of the Assistant Building Manager, Building Manager and the Shelter Director, the Custodian is responsible for performing various tasks daily, including sleeping areas, dining space, restrooms, stairwells, and all public areas, providing a clean and safe environment for the staff and clients of the shelter; performs related work.
  • Rehabilitation Aide - Process new intakes in the computer system. File documents and organize client charts. Help maintain quiet and safety for clients and staff. Provide structure for clients and help organize client activities.

Qualifications:
  • A High School Diploma or GED required
  • Interest in working with the homeless population in a shelter setting
  • Currently not employed and open availability to participate in flexible scheduling
