Steel Dynamics is a leading industrial metals solutions company that produces lower-carbon, high-quality steel products primarily from recycled scrap. Operating through a circular manufacturing model, the company manufactures a wide range of steel products including flat roll, structural, and long products for industries such as construction, automotive, energy, and manufacturing. In addition to steel production, Steel Dynamics operates metals recycling facilities, steel fabrication plants, and aluminum production operations, serving customers across North America with a focus on innovation, efficiency, and sustainability. Internship Location This internship is located at Steel of West Virginia, located in Huntington, WV. You must currently be a full-time student (college) to be considered for this internship. Responsibilities
  • Utilize engineering principles to assist in the performance of engineering duties
  • Conduct and analyze mill experiments
  • Write reports on findings
  • Assist other engineers in on-going projects
  • Utilize various laboratory equipment for process analysis
  • Perform data analysis and report trends to operation personnel
  • Be in direct contact with operation personnel working on projects that will directly affect production
  • Participate in day to day engineering activities in a fast paced and varied environment
  • Develop trials based on research and needs

Qualifications
  • Candidates should be enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering
  • Completed at least their freshman year of study
  • Preferred GPA of at least 2.7

Steel Dynamics is one of the largest and most diversified domestic steel producers and metals recyclers in the United States, with an estimated steelmaking and coating capacity of approximately 13 million tons, and facilities located throughout the United States and in Mexico. We operate using a circular manufacturing model, producing lower-carbon-emission, quality steel using electric arc furnace (EAF) technology with recycled ferrous scrap as the primary input. Our circular economy is powered by our three primary operating platforms: steel, metals recycling, and steel fabrication. Our steel operations produce steel products, including hot roll, cold roll, and coated sheet steel, structural steel beams and shapes, rail, engineered special-bar-quality steel, cold finished steel, merchant bar products, and specialty steel sections. Our metals recycling operations collect and process ferrous and nonferrous scrap from manufacturing and end-of-life items, such as automobiles, appliances, and machinery. This processed scrap is then sold to end-users for reuse, including our EAF steel mills, which produce new steel from the scrapped material. We sell a meaningful amount of steel to our own steel fabrication operations that in turn produce and sell structural steel joist and deck building systems to consumers.
