What You Will Do
As an Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Controls Intern, you will support preventive maintenance and controls activities for HVAC systems at a single customer site: Penn State Hershey Medical Center. This role offers hands-on exposure to building automation systems, HVAC controls, and real-world facilities operations in a healthcare environment.
How You Will Do It
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on HVAC controls systems to support optimal system performance and energy efficiency
  • Maintain and repair HVAC controls equipment in accordance with building codes, safety standards, and manufacturer specifications
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC system and controls issues by identifying root causes and assisting with corrective actions
  • Repair or replace defective components using appropriate hand and power tools under supervision
  • Conduct basic performance testing and system adjustments to meet defined operational requirements
  • Document maintenance and repair activities accurately, including work performed, parts used, and labor hours
  • Collaborate with technicians, team members, and contractors to support timely completion of maintenance tasks
  • Follow all safety protocols, site requirements, and company policies at all times
  • Provide professional and responsive customer service by addressing site personnel questions and concerns
  • Participate in training to stay current on industry practices, regulations, and HVAC controls technologies

Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a technical, trade, or college program related to HVAC, mechanical systems, controls, engineering technology, or a similar field
  • Ability to work on-site at Penn State Hershey Medical Center
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in HVAC systems and building controls
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and written instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a hands-on environment
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
