Job description

Job Summary: The Plant Engineer is responsible for analyzing, planning, installing, evaluating, certifying, and correcting mechanical system malfunctions. Will oversee major repairs to equipment and provide guidance to less experienced Plant Engineers.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:

  1. Operates and maintains chiller plant equipment, including but not limited to the following: chillers, chilled water pumps, condensing water pumps, cooling towers and all associated equipment such as pumps, motor gear boxes, fill material, risers, cold water basin, heat exchangers, chiller tube cleaning, make-up water system, water chemistry testing & treatment, controls, variable frequency drives, etc.

  2. Troubleshoots and resolves complex system issues.

  3. Operates and maintains boiler plant equipment, including but not limited to the following: steam boilers, hot water boilers, deaerator tank, boiler feed tank, boiler feed pumps, water softeners, make-up water systems, steam traps, heat exchangers, condensate system, water chemistry and testing and all associated equipment.

  4. Operates and maintains facility HVAC systems and equipment, to include but not limited to: AHU's, fan coil units, split systems, humidifiers, exhaust fans, VAV boxes, DX units, Liebert units, and all associated equipment and controls.

  5. Performs testing and balancing of HVAC systems, leads and directs others in troubleshooting and resolving complex system problems.

  6. Repairs and maintains complex piping systems to include steam piping, replacing steam valves, installation of condensate pumps and repair steam leaks.

  7. Repairs and maintains chill water piping and valves, flow meters and associated controls.

  8. Maintains environmental temperatures and air balance.

  9. Accomplish and document preventive maintenance.
