Job Description

The Product Design Engineer is responsible for the research, design, and successful implementation of Modified to Order (MtO) and Engineered to Order (EtO) products for Staubli Electrical Connectors. Duties will include the development and design of new products including cable harness systems, modifications of standard product(s), new custom design(s) and novel application of standard product(s).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Gathering and/or providing relevant technical information from and to the customer with the help of outside sales or directly to acquire or deliver all data needed for the proper product utilization or product design.

Develop and design new products, if necessary, by engaging all internal resources at Staubli, to ensure proper product functionality in its intended application(s).

Serve as technical consultant for inside and outside sales staff and customers of Staubli.

Promotion of Staubli products at the inbound customer contact level.

Collaborate with various stakeholders within Staubli such as Operations, Assembly, and Quality and with external vendors/suppliers with respect to production and/or assembly of new developed or existing products to ensure products are technically sounds and cost-effective.

Read and interpret international and national standards relevant to specific applications to ensure compliance of new and existing product designs.

Perform GD&T, DFM/DFA and DFMEA analysis of newly designed or modified products.

Support Staubli internal Test Lab with development of type test protocols and proof of concept test protocols and fixtures/apparatus, as needed.

Serve as a trainer in products and applications for Staubli personnel or customers as requested by management.

Effectively utilize time to efficiently complete various project design at the same time and perform administrative duties, such as weekly meetings, assisting customer's technical questions, first time builds, and questions from internal and external vendors. Product Design Engineer II - PDE2 2/2

Provide guidance to Staubli marketing with respect to new or existing products.

Minimum of 10% travel required.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must:

Possess a BS Mechanical, Mechatronics or Industrial Engineering

 Be a 'U.S. Person' as defined by ITAR (22 CFR 120.15)

5+ years of practical experience as Product Design Engineer

Demonstrate understanding of terminology, principles and theories of applicable task

Demonstrate ability to read and understand international standards, manuals, and drawings.

Have excellent written and verbal communication skills to work effectively with local and international engineering groups and sales team, handle questions promptly and explain decisions thoroughly.

Proficient with Windows11 and Microsoft Office365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with PowerBI, PowerAutomate, VBA preferred.

Proficient with CAD and PLM software. Autodesk Inventor and SmarTeam preferred.

Experience with ERP Systems. SAP Hana Preferred.

Familiar with International Standards from UL, IEC, VDE, DIN, ASTM, TuV, IPC/WHMA, and ANSI

Knowledge of manufacturing processes and associated cost-implications and ability to adapt designs to low, medium, and high-volume production methods

Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Be a self-starter and work under limited supervision.

Possess strong decision-making skills and the ability to make decisions in a timely manner. Must display a willingness to take reasonable risks within the bounds of authority and accept responsibility for decisions. Decisions are to be consistent with company policies, procedures and objectives.

Additional Information

Physical: Primarily sedentary work (desk-based, computer-focused), which may include frequent sitting, typing, and viewing screens.
Occasional Requirements: Ability to walk to production floors, lift prototypes (<20 lbs), or sit for extended periods.
Environment: Office and manufacturing environment - be able to wear required PPE as needed.

Salary Range: $105,000 - $135,000 USD
