Stationary Engineer Apprentice-JLL

What this job involves:

As a Stationary Engineer Apprentice at JLL, you'll join our facilities management team operating and monitoring critical building systems in our central utility plant located in Mason, with potential support at other Cincinnati facilities. This hands-on role focuses on ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operation of boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and related equipment to maintain optimal building comfort and operational efficiency. Working under direct supervision, you'll develop expertise in troubleshooting, repair, and operations while learning from experienced engineers who are invested in your success. We believe the most effective teams are built when everyone is empowered to thrive, and this position offers a clear pathway to advancement as you work toward obtaining your Operator's License within your first year. What your day-to-day will look like:

Monitor and operate high-pressure boilers, steam systems, chiller systems, cooling towers, and associated pumps under supervision

Conduct routine equipment inspections, performance monitoring, and daily, weekly, and monthly equipment checks while logging readings

Monitor computerized building management systems (BMS) and control panels to ensure optimal equipment performance

Perform start-up and shutdown procedures for utility plant equipment and maintain proper water treatment and chemical levels

Execute preventive maintenance tasks according to scheduled protocols and respond to emergency situations and equipment alarms

Report critical issues and system failures to management teams and assist with troubleshooting efforts

Follow lockout/tagout procedures, safety protocols, and monitor energy consumption to identify efficiency opportunities

Required qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required

Minimum 2-3 years of mechanical experience with hands-on equipment work

Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of HVAC systems, steam, and hydronic systems

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals

Flexibility to learn new systems with willingness to take direction and work independently

Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds, work at heights and in confined spaces, and stand, walk, and climb stairs for extended periods

Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime with on-call availability for emergencies

Preferred qualifications:

Previous experience in central utility plant or industrial facilities operations

Familiarity with building automation systems and computerized maintenance management software

Knowledge of water treatment systems and chemical management

Experience with energy management and system optimization

Commitment to obtaining Operator's License within one year of start date (required for role progression)
