Job Description Alabama State University, University Library and Learning Resources, Levi Watkins Learning Center/ National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African- American Culture invites applications for the position on Staff Associate. The staff associate reports directly through the Access Services/Cultural Heritage manager to perform duties assigned and is responsible for performing daily operations of the National Center. The position also works in cooperation with the Associate Director and the Project Director/Dean of the LWLC and Steering Committee of the National Center to perform duties that may comprise planning, management, curation, and overall maintenance activities for the National Center.

The staff associate works with the Access Services/Cultural Heritage manager to carry out the mission, goals, and objectives for the National Center DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reports to the Access Services/Cultural Heritage Manager in coordinating the work of the center to include carrying out activities that achieve the mission of the center. Works with Project Director and other team members of the National Center and the Steering Committee of the National Center Assists in carrying out activities that achieve the overall mission of the center Assists in the development of public programs and assists in carrying out the work required to host public programs Works with supervisors to monitor the progress of the center to include preparing reports on the status of programs and workflow needs Assists in the management of the National Center's office including the customer service requirements to ensure that visitors of the center are served Prepares correspondence for supervisors and prepares other communications as required Assists in the preparation of planning activities to include the preparation of goals and objectives needed to carry out the mission of the center Prepares monthly reports, statistical reports, and other publications to assess the work of the center Assists in the preparation of publicity materials to include newsletters, brochures, invitations, and other correspondence to patrons and visitors of the center Works closely with the organization: Patrons of the National Center in assisting members and the committee in their activities Assist in the event planning and long-range planning regarding scheduled activities of the center Works to archive activities of the NC Assists with graphic design of publications and marketing materials Assist in proposal writing and other fundraising activities Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor Trains and supervises student assistants and part time staff to include measuring of work activities Works flexible schedule as needed to host and prepare for public programs and the operations of the National Center including some evenings and weekends Assists with conducting tours and lecture series as scheduled including preparing presentations and assisting in set up or facility preparations Serves on various Library committees Adheres to the overall policies and procedures of the LWLC and specifically, the National Center Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Effective communication skills Working knowledge of computer software packages to include the Word suite of products Administrative and supervisory skills Ability to work effectively with diverse groups Effective customer service skills Clerical skills for effective office management Knowledge of archives, special collections or museum management Knowledge of African-American culture and history Ability to plan and execute events Ability to multitask. Knowledge of and skills in using computer administrative software and hardware Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor's degree in African-American History and Culture or related field, 2 years of relevant experience, experience in Microsoft Office software, and great organizations skills are required.

Master's degree in African-American history preferred.
