Milestone Tax Solutions is a fast-growing startup providing IRS tax resolution services for its clients. We're dedicated to helping individuals get a fresh start by resolving their tax challenges efficiently and empathetically. Our innovative approach combines technology, creativity, and personalized service to guide clients back to financial stability.
We're building a team of driven Tax Resolution Assistants who take pride in proactively resolving clients' tax matters under the direct supervision of licensed Tax Professionals. Job Summary
The Tax Resolution Assistant oversees client accounts throughout the tax resolution process. This role assists Tax Professionals with resolving client tax matters by drafting and preparing IRS and state resolution documents, performing tax research as needed, managing communication with clients, and contacting the IRS for client tax records. The ideal candidate combines strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing exceptional client support while navigating complex tax matters.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Review IRS tax transcript data and reporting, including Account Transcripts, Wage and Income Transcripts, and Tax Return Transcripts.
• Utilize data from IRS transcripts and client provided data (such as 433a forms) to propose custom solutions for client tax problems in coordination with our team of Tax Professionals.
• Draft required collection alternative forms associated with Currently Not Collectible Status, Installment Agreements, Offers in Compromise, Dispute Issue Verification, Appeals.
• Serve as the primary client liaison for resolution services by collecting, organizing, and validating client financial documentation (bank statements, pay stubs, P&Ls, asset verification).
• Provide clients with timely updates on the status of their case.
• Identify statute-sensitive matters and calendar critical deadlines (appeals windows, levy release requests, CDP deadlines, OIC rejection appeal dates).
• Prepare internal case summaries for Tax Professional review prior to calls with the IRS or state agencies
• Clearly document all findings, updates, and actions within the CRM to maintain a complete and audit-ready case record
• Ensure all case activity is aligned with statute-sensitive deadlines and escalation timelines
Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or equivalent education required
• 2 years of experience in tax practice, controversy, litigation, or similar experience.
Skills and Abilities
• Strong understanding of accounting, individual, corporate, and partnership taxation, tax resolution strategies, and IRS/state agency tax procedure and policy
• Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and individual tax concepts; exposure to business taxation a plus
• Strong and clear verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients effectively.
• Willingness and ability to adapt to changes and additions to procedures.
• Comfortable working in a start-up or growing team setting
• Fluent in English; bilingual Spanish is a plus
• A caring and understanding of clients that need a helpful voice.
• Empathetic and professional when working with clients in sensitive financial situations
• Strong ability to multi-task and solve problems.
• Ability to learn new software programs. (Ongoing training provided)
