Job description

Who we are
Aurora's mission is to deliver the benefits of self-driving technology safely, quickly, and broadly.
The Aurora Driver will create a new era in mobility and logistics, one that will bring a safer, more efficient, and more accessible future to everyone.
At Aurora, you will tackle massively complex problems alongside other passionate, intelligent individuals, growing as an expert while expanding your knowledge. For the latest news from Aurora, visit aurora.tech or follow us on LinkedIn.
Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all. We're looking for a Staff Technical Product Operations Manager to be a force multiplier in realizing the full potential of Aurora's Mapping operations and technology for self-driving. As a Staff Product Operations Manager, you'll bring a blend of strategic, operational, and product experience to drive alignment across our organization, optimize operational processes, and accelerate product development velocity. You'll partner with Engineering, Mapping Ops, Systems Safety, and Product Program Management to translate business objectives into concrete, tactical plans for the teams.
In this high-impact role, you'll bring strong product management instinct and pair them with operational rigor to design systems that allow our Mapping organization to scale. You'll help build and improve the operating system behind how our Mapping products and processes scale - from HD map expansion, updates, change detection, validation, and release readiness.
In this role, you will
  • Partner closely with Map Engineering and Ops leads to plan product alignment, operational readiness, and continuous improvement across internal systems and tools
  • Build technical understanding at the architectural level and be able to collaborate on technical alternatives when necessary; advocate for solutions that balance engineering effort with impactful operational performance gains
  • Translate operational inefficiencies into prioritized product requirements that include defining MVP capabilities, user acceptance testing, and Ops implementation plans
  • Apply analytical frameworks to conduct user research and product analysis to synthesize clear, measurable improvement opportunities and prioritize with engineering leaders
  • Influence senior stakeholders with data-driven narratives to inform product and operational decisions
  • Develop detailed project plans and experiments with clear objective, structure, and analytical rigor
  • Track progress, resolve dependencies, evaluate risks and communicate status to upper management and project stakeholders
  • Manage complex, cross-functional projects at a large scale, instilling an efficient project management mindset and workflow across the teams

Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of related work experience, particularly in Product Management, Product Operations, or Technical Program Management
  • Direct, measurable impact through the design, development and launch of groundbreaking products or delivery of significant and novel technology programs
  • High technical aptitude with an ability to understand technical designs, software development lifecycle, challenges and risks; ability to work closely with engineers
  • Strong experience in project management, practical familiarity with both Agile and Waterfall methodologies and ability to apply them where best suited
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adjust communication based on audience
  • Strong problem-solver with ability to organize ambiguity into clear, actionable plans, passion for shipping new to market products and the ability to dynamically adapt
  • Data fluency and experience with visualization tools using SQL and Python, turning data into actionable business insights

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience with HD maps, geospatial systems, robotics, autonomy, and simulation environments
  • Experience supporting Machine Learning or data labeling pipelines
  • Experience using jira to build structures and frameworks to manage deliverables

The base salary range for this position is $163-$236K per year. Aurora's pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate's starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions.
