Job Summary:

Since its inception in 1985, National Institute for AviationResearch (NIAR) at Wichita State University has made a name foritself as the most capable university-based aviation researchcenter in the United States, providing research, design, testing,certification and training to the aviation manufacturing industry,government agencies, educational entities and other clients thatcan benefit from our services. This position will be an independent contractor consulting as aStress Engineer with NIAR to support various diverse customerprograms. This person will complete tasks that may includepreliminary sizing, development of load paths, detailed analysis,certification and documentation required to support programobjectives. Experience in both metallic and composite analysis isdesired. Some travel may be required.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform detailed stress analyses and document as required tosupport program objectives.
  • Analysis of details including primary structure, secondarystructure, flight test, flight controls, mechanical systems,interiors, and major modifications.
Requirements:
  • Ability to work on-site 80% of the time
  • This position requires access to EAR or ITAR controlledtechnologies. Applicants are required to be eligible for employmentunder U.S. export control laws and must meet the requirement ofbeing a “U.S. Citizen”.
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering
  • Three (3) years of related experience
  • Professional and diplomatic demeanor
  • Strong sense of accountability and integrity
  • Experience with classical handbook analysis methods and FiniteElement Modeling (Patran and Femap preferred)
  • Experience with metallic and composite analysis methods
  • Familiarity with civil and/or military structural designstandards
  • Experience in 3D CAD tools (Catia v5 and/or 3DE preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve desired results within adefined schedule
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

All services will be provided as an independent contractor,pursuant to a Professional Services Agreement, which must beexecuted prior to being assigned any work.
