We are seeking a motivated Software Section Leader to join the Maritime Systems and Platforms Software Department.  The Software Section Leader provides technical leadership, people management, and strategic direction for a software engineering section within the organization. This role oversees staffing, career development, execution quality, and alignment with program, department, and business goals. The Section Leader enables high‑performing teams by driving engineering rigor, promoting collaboration, and ensuring the delivery of reliable, secure, and maintainable software solutions.

What You Will Do

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers across multiple projects and programs.

  • Manage staffing assignments, workload balancing, and succession planning for the section.

  • Partner with Program and Engineering leadership to coordinate priorities, resolve resource conflicts, and ensure successful execution.

  • Drive adherence to engineering processes, best practices, security requirements, and compliance standards.

  • Support hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, salary planning, and recognition activities.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.

  • Identify skill gaps and create targeted development plans, training initiatives, and technical roadmaps.

  • Promote strong communication and collaboration across cross‑functional teams.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant software engineering experience, unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

  • Experience leading technical teams or managing engineering staff.

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued Interim Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
