About the Role

Gap Inc. is seeking a Staff Network Engineer – Stores Network to lead the evolution of our retail store network infrastructure across North America and global markets. This role is both hands-on and strategic, responsible for shaping the architecture, reliability, and scalability of the networks that power thousands of Gap Inc. stores.
As a senior technical leader within the Infrastructure Engineering organization, you will define standards, drive innovation, and influence cross-functional teams to enable secure, resilient, and highly available connectivity. This role plays a critical part in supporting Store Wi-Fi, LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, 5G, and IoT ecosystems, enabling Gap’s Store of the Future vision.

Key Outcomes & Responsibilities

1. Raise the Technical and Operational Bar

  • Define and evolve store network reference architectures supporting Wi-Fi, LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, and 5G connectivity
  • Lead store network modernization initiatives to improve uptime, resiliency, and performance across thousands of retail locations
  • Establish engineering standards and best practices aligned with enterprise architecture and security requirements
  • Partner with Security and Digital teams to ensure store networks support customer-facing and business-critical applications

2. Enable Store of the Future & Innovation

  • Architect network solutions that support IoT and smart store devices, including POS systems, handhelds, kiosks, cameras, sensors, and emerging in-store technologies
  • Collaborate with product and store technology teams to enable pilots and new in-store capabilities
  • Evaluate and influence adoption of new networking technologies and vendor solutions to support future retail experiences

3. Deliver Resilient, Scalable Store Connectivity

  • Engineer highly available and fault-tolerant connectivity for retail stores, including primary and backup paths (broadband, LTE/5G)
  • Act as the highest-level technical escalation point for complex or systemic store network issues
  • Lead deep root cause analysis and drive long-term corrective actions tied to reliability metrics
  • Improve observability, failover behavior, and performance across the store network platform

4. Drive Automation, Standards & Engineering Excellence

  • Influence automation strategies to reduce manual effort, configuration drift, and operational risk
  • Define scalable deployment and lifecycle management models for store network infrastructure
  • Establish documentation, design standards, and operational runbooks to support consistent execution at scale

5. Partner, Lead, and Influence

  • Collaborate closely with Infrastructure, Security, Cloud, and Store Technology product teams across Gap Inc.
  • Work with telecom providers, ISPs, and network vendors to shape solutions and resolve systemic issues
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers across the organization
  • Influence outcomes through expertise, strong communication, and technical credibility

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience designing and supporting large-scale enterprise or retail networks
  • Deep expertise in Store Wi-Fi, LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, and branch connectivity
  • Strong hands-on experience with Cisco and Juniper networking platforms
  • Advanced knowledge of routing and switching (BGP, OSPF, VLANs, QoS)
  • Experience supporting IoT and store-critical devices in highly available environments
  • Strong understanding of network security principles, segmentation, firewalls, VPNs, and DNS security
  • Proven ability to lead architecture decisions and resolve complex, ambiguous technical problems
Who You Are

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting global retail environments with hundreds or thousands of stores
  • Experience with cloud-managed networking platforms (e.g., Cisco Meraki)
  • Familiarity with cloud networking (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Automation or scripting experience (Python, APIs, Infrastructure as Code)
  • Industry certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP/JNCIE, or equivalent experience

Salary Range: $146,500 - $190,500 USD
Employee pay will vary based on factors such as qualifications, experience, skill level, competencies and work location. We will meet minimum wage or minimum of the pay range (whichever is higher) based on city, county and state requirements.
