Job description/Responsibilities: Per-Diem
All Shifts (weekend availability required)
APPROXIMATE PAY RANGE:
$33.33 - $39.79
Under general supervision the Registrar I position is responsible for the registration of patients, including patient interviews, updating hospital computers, obtaining consent, and information accuracy. (S)he handles routine patient inquiries and issues and works closely with other areas including SRH departments and physician offices. Also greets patients and processes them through to the appropriate area.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Registrar, position functions to vary by location and/or department internal operations. Functions may include the following:
1. Interviews patients in person or by phone to obtain all required information for hospital records and billing systems. Registers or Pre-registers all scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services according to department policies and procedures.
2. Obtains bed assignments from the appropriate department. Follows up with the nursing station, keeping patient/family informed when no bed is immediately available. Maintains an awareness of patient-level of comfort during the wait. Advises the Patient Access Supervisor and/or nursing station if the patient is unable to wait. Notifies nursing units of patients going to rooms, when appropriate.
3. Obtains patient's and/or responsible party's signatures on registration and issues required information to patients/ responsible party concerning Advanced Directives, Privacy, Ethnicity, Medicare, Medi-Cal, and Tricare as necessary.
4. Verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorization for all services requiring pre-certification. Takes appropriate steps following department guidelines when required authorization is not available.
5. May prepare charts and paperwork for patient visits. Places identification wristband on patient and follows SRH procedures for patient identification at all times.
6. Determines upfront payment or deposit based on the patient's third-party coverage and requests payment from the patient or family members following SRH scripting for POS collections. Logs payment, produces receipt and prepares deposit records within SRH cash handling policy and procedure.
7. Screens patients for Medi-Cal or hospital-sponsored financial programs and provide appropriate documentation and referral. Explains payment options to the patient and enrolls in the plan as appropriate
8. Collects and disburses valuables envelopes after determination of patient or family identification.
9. Performs clerical functions as needed, including answering phones, taking messages, chart processing, filing, faxing, etc. Assists patients with questions regarding hospital bills including taking payments at any registration location.
10. Following HIPAA guidelines, maintains confidentiality of information at all times.
11. Compliance with department policy and procedure for registration quality, including timely correction and/or leader notification.
12. Demonstrates appropriate problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
13. Promotes a positive hospital image to patients, visitors, and physicians by adhering to the SRH Core Values of Service-Partnership-Community-Compassion-Excellence.
OTHER DUTIES:
Always maintains a clean, neat, and orderly work area. Responsible for working in a safe manner at all times. Provide escort and assist in patient transport as needed to the appropriate location.
Demonstrates competency in communication with adolescent, adult, or geriatric patients relative to age-related, psychosocial, and cultural needs.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Manager, Supervisor, or Lead.
Required Qualification: License/Certification: N/A
Education: High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
Experience: One-year hospital registration or relevant experience.
Skills: Knowledge of medical insurances (Medicare, Medi-Cal, HMOs, PPOs, commercial), EMTALA, and HIPAA regulations.
The employee must demonstrate basic computer skills (word processing, e-mail, and internet)
Bilingual language competency in Spanish or Tagalog preferred.
