This position is in Santa Rosa, in the heart of California’s beautiful wine country, is the corporate headquarters of Keysight, home to many product development R&D labs.  The Digital and Photonics R&D team in Santa Rosa develops and produces the world’s highest performance oscilloscopes.

Responsibilities


Lead and develop a team of multi-talented hardware engineers to invent, design, and develop new, world-leading time-domain measurement instruments, working with a multi-functional, global team to deliver designs from concept to full manufacturing shipment.

  • Quickly learn the hardware architecture of sampling oscilloscopes, taking ownership to imagine, define, plan and execute one or more projects to deliver new oscilloscope products to market.  Instrument design requires multiple subsystem integration including optical and electrical frontends, signal sampling sub-systems, clock recovery/phase lock loop design at frequencies from 20 GHz to 200GHz with analog control/sensing/adjustment circuitry.    Provide customer-valued performance, robustness, and flexibility within cost, schedule and scope constraints. 
  • Lead a multi-functional team through the full product development lifecycle and prove your designs are manufacturable as well as high-performance.  Work to balance customer-facing requirements with pragmatic technical judgement to align on scope, factory cost/investment cost, and schedule.  Learn and follow the Keysight product lifecycle, respecting standards of business conduct and export control restrictions.
  • Collaborate with sampling scope, OF NPI and DP-COE leadership team.  Sampling scopes is a fast-paced, dynamic team where hardware and software operating managers who collaborate to efficiently complete multiple synergistic new product introductions.  Work extensively with customer-facing inbound marketing, field sales force, Keysight Labs, and a leader of our large global manufacturing organization.
  • Grow engineering talent.  Evaluate, coach and reward to maximize individual performance and support the success of our sampling R&D teams
  • Support customers. Present technical information of value to customers, occasionally visiting global customer sites to present products and help customers with integration

This position requires significant electronic product knowledge to understand the hardware and make timely design and execution path risk tradeoff decisions.   Relevant technical background of a successful candidate most likely to be in electrical or mechanical engineering with significant project execution experience.   

Open to individuals with a track record of leading engineering teams to deliver projects involving new electronic and mechanical design within time/cost/scope constraints.  Educational background most likely includes a BS or MS degree in an Engineering major or equivalent field of study with 2-4 years of related project leadership experience to draw upon.

  • One or more examples of project leadership.  Ability to discuss performance, cost, and schedule tradeoffs, arrive at an aligned execution plan & track progress.  One or more examples of how changes to plan were handled.
  • Evidence of excellent leadership of triage & troubleshooting and issue resolution skills.  
  • Enjoy working with a diverse multi-functional team to deliver prototype designs into volume manufacturing on a global scale.
    Evidence of talent development skills & optimizing team productivity and creativity
  • Demonstration of excellent communication and teamwork skills, enjoying working with a diverse and global team
    Ability to persuasively advocate for resources to remove roadblocks to speed project execution
  • Strong problem-solving and quantitative data analysis skills.  Evidence of experience with budget management, factory cost versus net profit versus product scope tradeoffs in a quantitative data-driven analysis.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies
  • Excellent time management, and ability to work independently in supportive team of available mentors
  • Significant pluses:
    • Evidence of ability to lead strategic discussions, for example future roadmap development.  Evidence of ability to make crisp and accurate tactical decisions with incomplete/ambiguous information, and then articulately explain & recruit support.
