Job Summary

This position is responsible for the administration, quality, integration, and delivery of brownfield and greenfield exploration geoscience data and database systems for the Kinross USA Exploration group. The role applies established data management standards, governance requirements, and industry best practices to ensure exploration datasets are accurate, accessible, and fit for purpose in support of exploration activities, technical studies, resource evaluation, and reporting requirements. The position serves as a technical resource to exploration teams and contributes to the enhancement of geoscience data systems, workflows, reporting tools, and data management practices across the exploration business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer brownfield and greenfield exploration databases, geoscience data management systems, validation routines, and database maintenance activities to support day-to-day exploration requirements.
  • Perform QA/QC on geological, geochemical, drilling, sampling, and related datasets; maintain QA/QC protocols, standards, workflows, and systems to ensure data integrity and confidence.
  • Compile, validate, import, manage, and maintain exploration drilling, sampling, geological, and related datasets within corporate database systems.
  • Ensure timely delivery and accessibility of exploration datasets, reports, and data products through acQuire GIMS, dashboards, direct database connections, and other reporting platforms.
  • Generate reports, dashboards, maps, and data products supporting exploration activities, QA/QC monitoring, resource development, technical studies, and regulatory reporting.
  • Maintain the integrity, security, and performance of exploration databases through ongoing administration, review, enhancement, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain geospatial datasets and spatial data repositories supporting exploration and mining activities.
  • Manage associated geological data stored on servers, SharePoint, and related systems; maintain integrations with analytical, GIS, modelling, and reporting applications.
  • Develop and maintain database standards, validation rules, procedures, workflows, technical documentation, and user training materials in accordance with corporate requirements and industry best practices.
  • Coordinate and participate in database upgrades, testing, system enhancements, workflow automation, and implementation of new technologies and data management solutions.
  • Provide database, software, GIS, and occasional field support to ensure geoscience data is collected, managed, and delivered efficiently.
  • Collaborate with geologists, technical services, laboratories, consultants, contractors, and information technology personnel to resolve complex data management issues and improve data quality and workflow efficiency.
  • Act as a technical resource for geoscience data management, providing guidance and support to database users on established systems, workflows, standards, and best practices.
  • Travel (30%) periodically to exploration projects and operational sites as required.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in Geology, Earth Sciences, Geoscience, Geomatics, GIS, Data Management, or related discipline.
  • Seven or more years of experience in mining, exploration, or geoscience data management.
  • Demonstrated experience in administering geological databases and exploration data collection, QA/QC practices, field sampling, logging, and mineral exploration workflows.
  • Experience with SQL database administration, development, maintenance, and reporting.
  • Experience identifying and resolving non-routine data quality, validation, integration, and reporting issues.
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary technical teams in mining or exploration environments.
  • Strong knowledge of data management, data governance, database administration, and data quality principles.
  • Proficiency with relational SQL databases and the ability to write T-SQL queries for data import, validation, extraction, and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of acQuire GIMS; certification in acQuire GIMS and Arena Practitioner (ACQ2000) preferred.
  • Experience with GIS and related geoscience software and platforms such as Seequent (Leapfrog, Central, Imago, MX Deposit, Target), ESRI (ArcGIS Pro, ESRI mobile applications, AGOL, Dashboards, Webapps) considered an asset.
  • Experience with Power BI, ArcGIS Dashboards, SharePoint, document management, and spatial data management considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, troubleshooting, communication, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
