Sr Frontend Engineer information

What is a Sr Frontend engineer?

Sr Frontend Engineers are experienced software developers who specialize in building and optimizing the user-facing parts of web applications. They lead the design and implementation of complex interfaces, ensure performance and accessibility, and often mentor junior engineers. Their role includes working closely with designers, backend developers, and product managers to deliver high-quality, scalable front-end solutions. Typically, they have a deep understanding of modern JavaScript frameworks, web standards, and best practices.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sr Frontend engineer?

To thrive as a Sr Frontend Engineer, you need advanced expertise in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and modern frontend frameworks like React or Angular, typically supported by a degree in computer science or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), build tools (Webpack, Babel), and testing frameworks (Jest, Cypress) is standard, and certifications in relevant technologies are a plus. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor junior developers. These technical and interpersonal skills are crucial for delivering robust, maintainable user interfaces that drive business outcomes.

How does a Sr Frontend engineer typically collaborate with backend teams to deliver high-quality user experiences?

As a Sr Frontend Engineer, you’ll frequently work closely with backend developers to define APIs, discuss data requirements, and troubleshoot integration issues. Regular collaboration involves participating in planning meetings, code reviews, and joint debugging sessions to ensure frontend and backend components align seamlessly. This cross-team communication is essential for delivering responsive, efficient, and scalable user interfaces, and it also provides opportunities to influence architectural decisions and improve overall product quality.

Job description

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the CoCounsel Applications team and play a hands-on role in building and evolving our external integration strategy leveraging MCP and A2A. In this role, you'll design and deliver full-stack features across our frontend and backend systems, write high-quality code every day, and work closely with product, design, and platform partners to ship high-impact, customer-facing features.
About the role
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will:
  • Build End-to-End Solutions: Design and implement full-stack features across frontend and backend systems, including hands-on development in our React, TypeScript and Python stacks - and direct contribution to AI-powered capabilities such as agentic workflows, LLM integrations, and MCP/A2A-based tooling.
  • Deliver Quality Software: Apply best practices for code quality, performance, accessibility, testing, and maintainability in your own work, and contribute to raising the bar through thoughtful code reviews.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner closely with product, design, and backend teams to clarify requirements, help define APIs, and deliver cohesive user experiences.
  • Own Your Workstreams: Break down features into well-scoped tasks, provide reliable estimates, and take your work from development through production with minimal oversight.
  • Share Knowledge: Contribute to a strong engineering culture through pairing, code reviews, and open technical discussion with your teammates.

About You
You're a fit for the role of Senior Software Engineer if your background includes:
  • Technical Experience: 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production web applications used by real customers.
  • Frontend Expertise: Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, along with a solid understanding of TypeScript and frontend fundamentals.
  • Backend & AI Skills: Experience building APIs and services with Python as a core language, and working familiarity with GenAI concepts including prompt engineering, agentic system design, or LLM orchestration frameworks; exposure to MCP/A2A is a plus.
  • Ownership: Track record of taking features from design through production, improving the systems you work in, and making sound technical decisions within your scope.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Comfortable operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments, with strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Preferred Qualifications
  • BA or BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience with performance optimization for web applications, including monitoring, profiling, and tuning for scale
  • Hands-on experience building AI-powered product features, including working with LLM APIs, RAG pipelines, or agentic workflows in a production environment
  • Familiarity with AI/ML infrastructure including vector databases, model serving, and cost/latency optimization for LLM-powered features
