Job description

Job Title: Senior Commodity Buyer Location: Hagerstown, Maryland Type: Direct Hire Compensation: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 Work Model: Onsite – onsite Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Commodity Buyer to develop and execute sourcing strategies for critical Class A commodities supporting both ongoing projects and new business pursuits. This role will lead strategic procurement activities from RFQ through contract execution while partnering closely with Engineering, Quality, Project Management, and key suppliers to ensure cost, quality, delivery, and risk objectives are achieved.

This position is ideal for a procurement professional with experience sourcing complex electromechanical systems within a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies for critical Class A commodities supporting ongoing projects and new business pursuits.
  • Lead strategic procurement activities from RFQ through contract execution, partnering with Engineering, Quality, Project Management, and suppliers.
  • Support active production programs and new bids by implementing sourcing strategies, driving cost reduction, supplier performance, and long-term value creation.
  • Monitor commodity budgets, cost savings, and procurement performance against project objectives.
  • Lead RFQ activities and negotiate agreements for electromechanical commodities including braking systems, door systems, HVAC systems, and other mechanical and electrical subsystems.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers, conduct performance reviews, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Negotiate commercial terms such as payment, warranty, liquidated damages, RAMS, variations, escalation clauses, and claims.
  • Maintain contract documentation and ensure procurement activities comply with policies and contractual requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate supplier proposals and ensure procurement milestones are met.
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks related to capacity, financial stability, material availability, and geopolitical impacts.
Requirements
  • 8–10 years of procurement experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, along with cost and price analysis.
  • Proven experience negotiating complex supplier agreements across multiple categories.
  • Strong commercial acumen and contract negotiation skills.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating supplier contracts.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, SAP, ERP systems, and procurement tools.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20%.
