Weston & Sampson is seeking a Senior Transportation Road Design Manager to lead road and highway design and project delivery efforts for key transportation infrastructure projects across the Southeast.

This senior leadership position offers the opportunity to manage complex DOT and local government roadway projects - including widening, intersection improvements, and corridor upgrades - while guiding and developing a talented team of engineers and designers.

What you'll do:

  • Manage and lead road design projects from concept through construction.
  • Oversee technical design teams, ensuring compliance with AASHTO, DOT, and local standards.
  • Serve as the primary client liaison for project delivery, quality, and performance.
  • Review design calculations, plans, and specifications.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and project managers.
  • Support proposal development and business growth through technical leadership.

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in North Carolina and/or South Carolina (or ability to become registered within six months) is strongly preferred.
  • 10-15 years of road design experience, including leadership of large-scale DOT or other county/municipal transportation projects.
  • Experience managing or being "in charge of all aspects of design" for a project (geometric design, typical sections, drainage/hydraulics, Maintenance of Traffic, etc.).
  • Familiarity with state DOT standards - in this case, specifically North/South Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT/SCDOT) design manuals, plan-preparation guides, and other related regulations and processes.
  • Proficiency in relevant design software/tools (MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.).
  • Proven ability to manage project budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, leadership/mentoring ability, and ability to manage multi-discipline teams.
