GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY

This is a non-supervisory position. The incumbent is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, operation and support of SQL Server databases. Works as a team member on technical functions related to creating and maintaining databases, performance and tuning analysis, software upgrades, backup and recovery procedures. The incumbent will provide technical expertise and support to staff members within CTS and less experienced DBAs. Additional responsibilities are likely to include planning, development and troubleshooting.

The tasks and duties outlined below do not include all possible tasks and do not limit the assignment of tasks for these positions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Installation, configuration and upgrades of SQL Servers.
  • Monitor, optimize and report on system performance.
  • Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans.
  • Manage security of databases in production and test environments.
  • Assist developers in performance tuning of SQL statements.
  • Code migration of all objects following established change control procedures.
  • Create and refresh test database instances.
  • Provide on call 24 hour, 7 day per week database support for production databases.
  • Troubleshoot, investigate, offer and execute resolution to database issues.
  • Monitor and report on database storage utilization.
  • Create and execute various ad-hoc database queries, as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years SQL DBA experience
  • Recent experience in MS SQL Server versions 2008/2012/2014;
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems;
  • Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models;
  • Experience with SQL Server High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR).
  • Extensive knowledge with T-SQL.
  • Experience implementing operational automation using scripts;
  • Expertise with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with all levels in the organization.
