Database Administrator

About the Role

As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for supporting database availability, performance, security, integrity, backup, recovery, and ongoing maintenance. You will work with application, infrastructure, security, reporting, and development teams to support stable database operations and future technology modernization.

In this role, you will monitor and optimize database environments, troubleshoot technical issues, support deployments and data migrations, and help ensure database systems remain secure, reliable, and scalable.

Responsibilities

As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for:

  • Installing, configuring, upgrading, monitoring, and maintaining database platforms in standalone or high-availability environments.
  • Creating, maintaining, and supporting tables, views, indexes, stored procedures, functions, schemas, jobs, and database objects.
  • Monitoring database health, performance, storage growth, query activity, blocking, deadlocks, and job execution.
  • Performing database backups, restores, recovery testing, refreshes, and disaster recovery support.
  • Supporting database security, user access, roles, permissions, service accounts, encryption, auditing, and compliance requirements.
  • Tuning SQL queries, indexes, execution plans, stored procedures, and database configuration for performance.
  • Troubleshooting database connectivity, performance, locking, data, application, reporting, and deployment issues.
  • Supporting database deployments, schema changes, release scripts, rollback scripts, and environment validation.
  • Reviewing database design changes and providing guidance on logical and physical database design.
  • Supporting data migration, data conversion, data refresh, and environment synchronization activities.
  • Supporting ETL, reporting, SSIS, SSRS, data warehouse, and analytics-related database processes.
  • Supporting database logging, application logging tables, monitoring tables, and reporting data stores.
  • Assisting with data archiving, retention planning, archive databases, warehouse databases, and report performance improvements.
  • Creating and maintaining database automation scripts using T-SQL, PowerShell, SQL Agent, or similar tools.
  • Supporting integration and API-related database needs, including data feeds, interface files, staging tables, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintaining database documentation, recovery procedures, data flow notes, deployment notes, and operational runbooks.
  • Working with developers, system administrators, business analysts, testers, and vendors to resolve issues and plan improvements.
  • Following change management, release management, data security, audit, and compliance processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is desired. Equivalent education, training, or experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of five years of database administration or database support experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration.
  • Experience supporting enterprise application databases across development, test, UAT, and production environments.
  • Experience with high availability and disaster recovery support.
  • Experience with SQL Server backup, restore, recovery, database refresh, security, performance tuning, and production support.
  • Strong T-SQL development and query tuning skills.
  • Experience with index management, execution plans, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with SQL Agent jobs and scheduled database processes.
  • Knowledge of database security, roles, permissions, auditing, and compliance.
  • Knowledge of SSIS, SSRS, ETL, reporting, and data warehouse concepts.
  • Experience with data archiving, retention, partitioning, and storage growth management.
  • Experience with PowerShell or scripting for database automation.
  • Experience supporting application deployments and database release scripts.
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of DevOps tools, source control, and CI/CD database deployment concepts.
  • Knowledge of cloud database readiness and migration assessment concepts.
  • Ability to review database changes and clearly explain risks, impacts, and options.
  • Ability to work effectively with technical teams, business teams, vendors, and management.
  • Ability to document work clearly and follow data security, operational, and change control processes.
  • Ability to support planned maintenance, deployments, production incidents, or recovery activities when required.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across servers, applications, databases, networks, access, and deployments.
  • Ability to work effectively with developers, business analysts, DBAs, security teams, network teams, vendors, and management.
  • Ability to document work clearly and follow operational, security, and change control processes.
  • Ability to support planned maintenance, deployments, production issues, or recovery activities when needed.

In addition to base pay, this position, based on business need, may be eligible for a bonus or incentive. In addition, Conduent provides a variety of benefits to employees including health insurance coverage, voluntary dental and vision programs, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO) or vacation and/or sick time. The estimated salary range for this role is ($69,300 - $90,000)
