Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Spray Fireproofing Technician to apply fireproofing materials to structural components in commercial and industrial settings. The ideal candidate will have experience working with spray-applied fire-resistant coatings, possess strong attention to detail, and be able to work efficiently in a team environment while adhering to safety standards and codes. Fireproofing experience is not necessary as we are willing and able to train. If you are familiar with working on a commercial construction site, this could be the opportunity for you to be in charge of your own work without enduring years of apprenticeship or training.
Key Responsibilities:
- Application of Fireproofing Materials:
- Apply fireproofing materials to steel, concrete, and other structural surfaces using spray equipment.
- Ensure uniform application and proper thickness of fireproofing material according to project specifications and fire rating requirements.
- Mix and prepare fireproofing materials according to manufacturer's instructions.
- Site Preparation and Safety:
- Prepare surfaces for fireproofing by cleaning, sanding, or treating surfaces to ensure optimal adhesion.
- Set up and maintain scaffolding, ladders, and other equipment as needed to access work areas.
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure that all fireproofing materials comply with safety regulations and standards.
- Inspection and Quality Control:
- Inspect finished work for quality, ensuring that it meets both aesthetic and safety standards.
- Identify and correct any discrepancies in the application or finish of fireproofing materials.
- Complete job reports and documentation to track work completed and materials used.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and other team members to ensure that fireproofing tasks are completed on time and according to specification.
- Communicate effectively with team members to troubleshoot issues and improve the application process.
- Maintenance and Equipment Care:
- Maintain spray equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition.
- Perform regular checks on fireproofing tools and equipment, and ensure they are cleaned and serviced regularly.
Preferences:
- Proven experience as a Spray Fireproofing Technician or similar role in the construction industry.
- Commercial construction experience.
- In-depth knowledge of fireproofing materials, application techniques, and safety standards.
- Ability to interpret and follow project plans, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to ensure high-quality work.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions and environments (e.g., heights, confined spaces).
- Familiarity with the use of scaffolding, ladders, and other access equipment.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to address on-site challenges quickly and efficiently.
- OSHA certification or equivalent construction safety training preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional fireproofing certifications are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work at heights, including on scaffolding or ladders.
- Ability to stand, bend, crouch, or kneel for extended periods.
Working Conditions:
- This position may require working in noisy, dusty, or high-traffic environments.
- Some overtime and weekend work may be required depending on project deadlines.
- Willingness to work out of town and travel to job sites in the SE United States
