Serving over 36,000 students, faculty, staff, and community members annually, we offer a wide variety of programs across 2 multipurpose facilities, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, adventure spaces, and more. Our team includes 46 professional staff and over 800 student employees.

Job Summary
The Operations Technician provides technical support across Recreational Sports facilities by performing preventative maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of equipment, athletic fields, and facility spaces. This role works closely with professional staff to ensure equipment is functioning properly and facilities are safe, clean, and prepared for daily operations and programs. This role offers a great opportunity to stay active, develop leadership and communication skills, and become part of a supportive campus community. You'll also gain valuable experience in customer service, conflict resolution, time management, and teamwork skills that are transferable to any future career.
Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Performs preventative maintenance and basic repairs on strength, cardio, and facility equipment.
• Maintains and grooms athletic fields and support field setup, painting, and layout needs.
• Completes work orders and assist with maintenance requests across facilities.
• Ensures preparation and cleanup of tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Assists with cleaning and upkeep of indoor and outdoor recreational spaces.
• Follows departmental and university policies while completing assigned work.

Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required

• General knowledge at the high school level

Preferred

• Some college

WORK EXPERIENCE
Required

• Experience working with tools, equipment, or facility operations in a hands-on environment

Preferred

• Prior experience working in an Operations role with IU Recreational Sports.

SKILLS
Required

• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn

Working Conditions / Demands
These positions require standing for long periods of time and frequently moving about the workspace. Positions require working both indoors and outdoors and ability to move objects up to 50 pounds with assistance. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location
This is an in-person position based in Bloomington, Indiana.
Onsite work will take place at the following campus recreation facilities:

• Student Recreational Sports Center (SRSC)
• Bill Garrett Fieldhouse
• Sembower Recreational Field Complex
• University Gym
• Additional facilities on and off campus as necessary based on activity

Advertised Salary
$15.00 per hour
Work Hours
Average of 10-15 hours per week including evenings, weekends, and outdoor shifts depending on facility needs.
