The Fredericksburg Field House is currently accepting applications for Summer Sports Camp Counselors.



The Summer Sports Camp Counselor is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading sports activities for children and young adults at a recreational sports camp. This role involves fostering a fun, supportive, and safe environment for participants while developing their athletic skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The Sports Camp Counselor will be expected to lead various sports activities, monitor the progress of campers, and promote physical fitness and a positive attitude toward sports. The Sports Camp Counselor reports directly to the Youth Programs Director.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Plan and Lead Sports Activities: Organize and instruct sports-related activities for campers across many sports programs.
  • Skill Development: Work with campers to develop and refine their athletic skills, including fundamental techniques, teamwork and sportsmanship.
  • Safety and Supervision: Maintain a safe and secure environment for all participants. Supervise campers during sports activities and breaks ensuring proper behavior and protocols are followed.
  • Create Positive Team Atmosphere: Encourage teamwork, good sportsmanship, respect to others. Serve as a role model for campers with attitude, behavior and effort.
  • Assist with Camp Setup: Setup of equipment and stations for participants.
  • Ensure Fun and Engaging Experience: Maintain as positive, high-energy atmosphere with organizing games, drills and friendly competition. encourage camper participation and enjoyment.
  • Communicate with Parents/Guardians: Maintain open communication with parents regarding their child's progress, any concerns and upcoming camp events.


Qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent (college degree in sports, physical education, or a related field preferred).
  • Previous experience coaching, teaching, or working with children in a sports or camp setting.
  • Knowledge and passion for one or more sports (e.g., basketball, soccer, swimming, etc.).
  • Ability to work effectively with children and young adults, fostering a positive, inclusive environment.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations, provide basic first aid if necessary, and ensure camper safety.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid preferred (or willingness to obtain prior to camp start).
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and maintain a positive attitude.


Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to stand, walk, run, and lead physical activities for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move sports equipment and assist with camp setup/cleanup.
  • Must have a high energy level and be physically fit to engage in various athletic activities.
