Job description

Description:

The Sporting Goods Lead is responsible for enhancing the Murdoch's customer experience by overseeing various tasks in the Sporting Goods department. They work closely with the Assistant Store Manager to maintain high merchandising standards, create task lists, offer training and development opportunities, and establish departmental objectives. Their primary focus includes exceptional customer service, overseeing the completion of department tasks, effective communication, and nurturing the development of the Sporting Goods team members. A critical aspect of this role is adherence to state and federal guidelines regulating firearms.

As a Murdoch's Team Member, you will...

  • Commit to the success of the team by embracing Murdochs’ mission, values, and principles.
  • Provide exceptional customer service with a focus on the customer’s needs and solutions that meet them, in a manner that makes them feel valued and welcome in our stores.
  • Support the manager(s) to facilitate the highest standards in merchandising, and store appearance.
  • Create daily worklists for the Sporting Goods department team members.
  • Merchandise, stock, re-stock, and recover products within the department according to Murdoch’s merchandising standards.
  • Complete inventory pricing and maintenance duties.
  • Display consistent and sound judgment when dealing with exchanges or returns in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Develop product knowledge across the breadth of products in the department.
  • Practice service-oriented leadership within the department and cross-functionally throughout the store.
  • Set and maintain signage in the department and on endcaps for sales, promotions, events, vendor assets, and financing options.
  • Perform regular audits of firearm inventory and forms to ensure state and federal compliance.
  • Receive and process firearms into Murdoch’s inventory control systems.
  • Must adhere to all Murdoch’s firearms safety rules and regulations.
  • Create and maintain a safe environment for customers and team members.
  • Communicate effectively and create positive working relationships with team members.
  • Exhibit proper radio and phone etiquette.
  • In certain stores, Leads may also operate as 'key carriers', working alongside a member of the store management team to open and/or close the store. When doing this, an Assistant Manager or Store Manager will also be present in the store.
  • Work with Assistant Store Manager to develop and achieve goals.
  • Other duties as needed, throughout the store.
Requirements:

As a Murdochian in this role, you must...

  • Be able to legally own a firearm and pass a criminal background check.
  • Have an extensive knowledge of firearms (types, calibers, actions etc.) and a demonstrated willingness to learn about them.
  • Complete multiple specialist certifications within the Sporting Goods department or have demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • Have strong communication (written, oral, and interpersonal) skills.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills.
  • Have a positive attitude and demonstrated practice of learning.
  • Excel in a fast paced, evolving work environment.
  • Be effective at problem-solving.
  • Possess strong Windows-based computer skills – especially with Microsoft products.

  • Standing for long periods of time.
  • Heavy and repetitive lifting (up to 50 lbs).
  • Bending, carrying, and pushing.
  • Working on a ladder.
