Job description

SUMMARY
The Sports Information Director serves as the Highland Community College Athletic Department representative for statistics and media associated with all athletic activities. The Specialist shall organize and collect all statistical and informational data related to the Highland Community College Athletic Department players, coaches, and competitions and report necessary data to the Kansas Jayhawk Conference and NJCAA. This position shall plan, coordinate, and organize press box and scorer's table game day operations related to statistics collection and reporting, and game announcing. The SID shall conduct media relation activities, write and release newsletters, informational athletic programs, recruitment brochures, informative pod casts, etc., and conduct interviews with players and coaches to promote and inform regarding the Highland Community College Athletic Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensure accurate collection and reporting of all HCC athletic statistics to the KJCCC and NJCAA.
  • Work in cooperation with the HCC Marketing Department and graphics design personnel for information release regarding HCC related content, promotional material development, website and social media content.
  • Work in cooperation with the HCC Marketing Director to manage HCC Athletic Department social media accounts - Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat as per the guidelines developed by the HCC Marketing Director.
  • Work in cooperation with the HCC Marketing Director in the management of the HCC Athletic Department website by keeping all information accurate and up-to-date as per the direction of the Athletic Director.
  • Work in cooperation with the Multi-Media Coordinator to collect digital photography of HCC Athletic teams and competitions.
  • Directly consult the Athletic Director and/or Marketing Director for approval of all information release regarding the hiring, dismissal, resignation or retirement of athletic department personnel.
  • Assist in the management and and coordination of press box and scores table operation during all home competitions, most specifically related to statistics collection and reporting, media, and announcing.
  • Recruit, train, and schedule workers for game day press box and scores table function including statistics, reporting, media, photography and announcing as regulated by the KJCCC.
  • Recruit students to assist in game day operations related to the duties of the SID: a. Sports information scholarship b. Work study qualified c. Work arrangement only through approval of the Athletic Director
  • Supply program and roster information for all athletic events as needed and upon request.
  • Work in cooperation with the HCC Marketing Director to produce game day programs and QR coded programs.
  • Manage, report, and promote sports information using all forms of communication. Prepare and disseminate news releases for all athletic activity, sports programs and events.
  • Work closely with the Alumni Director to promote special athletic events.
  • Communicate with Athletic Director and coaches to coordinate dates and promote special events associated with athletic competitions (i.e. pink out day, military appreciation day, etc.) in conjunction with the Marketing Director.
  • Respond to requests for information from media personnel and other colleges. Any information release regarding the hiring, dismissal, resignation or retirement of athletic department personnel needs to be approved by the Athletic Director and/or Marketing Director.
  • Organize and supervise photo sessions for all sports to provide head and shoulder photos of athletes and posed action shots in coordination with the Multi-Media Coordinator and Marketing Director.
  • Travel to away games to cover all sports information on the road when applicable and does not conflict with home event coverage.
  • Develop and maintain close contact with local media and those who cover HCC sports. Organize press conferences, set up interviews, respond to questions and issue press credentials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's preferred
  • Good computer skills required
  • Experience with common in-game statistics programs
  • Experience with the collection and dissemination of common athletic statistics
  • Experience with production of video board content
  • Experience with production of video board advertisements & promotional materials for businesses wishing to advertise during HCC games
  • Experience with website production
  • Experience with current social media platforms
  • Ability to effectively communicate via written English language with highly accurate punctuation, spelling and grammatical syntax
