Job description

Position Description

The Game Day Operations Worker supports the setup, execution, and breakdown of home athletic events across Butler Athletics. This position is scheduled across all sponsored sports except tennis, golf, track & field, and swimming; duties will vary by venue and sport. Workers are expected to be reliable, professional, and adaptable, and to remain impartial to the competing teams at all times.

Position Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES (PRE-GAME) 

  • Prior to the event, workers should arrive at the designated call time, typically 60 to 90 minutes before the contest depending on assignment. 
  • Assist with venue setup, including the placement of equipment, signage, tables, and team or official supplies as directed. 
  • Workers should retrieve and confirm working radios where applicable, ensuring communication with the Event Manager and other gameday staff, and should review their specific event-day assignment with the Event Manager. 

RESPONSIBILITIES (IN-GAME) 

  • During the event, workers should perform their assigned duties for the full duration of the contest, remaining attentive and in position, and should support the Event Manager and event staff with any in-game needs such as fan assistance, minor issue resolution, or supply runs. 
  • When relaying information is part of the assignment, workers should communicate accurately and promptly via radio. 
  • Workers should assist with halftime or intermission needs, including restocking supplies and escorting teams or officials if assigned, report any safety, facility, or equipment issues to the Event Manager immediately, and maintain professionalism and impartiality throughout the contest. 

RESPONSIBILITIES (POST-GAME) 

  • After the event, workers should assist with the return and accounting of any equipment, radios, or supplies used during the event, and support locker room and work area breakdown and clean-up as assigned. 
  • Workers should assist with general field or venue breakdown, including equipment, signage, and tables, and check out with the Event Manager before leaving the venue.

Required Qualifications

  • This position requires someone who is reliable, punctual, and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as the athletic calendar requires. 
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow direction under pressure are important, as is the ability to stand, walk, and be on your feet for extended periods. 
  • As well as assist with light physical setup and breakdown tasks. 
  • Prior gameday, customer service, or athletics experience is preferred but not required.
