Location: Santa Rosa, CA 
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 12:00 AM – 08:30 AM (5x8)
Pay Rate: $61/hr (W2) | $65/hr (1099) 
 
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Histology Technician for a night shift travel assignment. The technician will work as part of the laboratory team supporting the histology department. Responsibilities include grossing, embedding, microtomy, staining, immunohistochemistry, and cytology specimen preparation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform tissue embedding and sectioning using microtome and cryostat.
  • Prepare and stain tissue slides using standard H&E and special staining protocols.
  • Operate tissue processors, embedding centers, and staining equipment.
  • Execute immunohistochemistry (IHC) and manual special stains as required.
  • Assist with specimen preparation including frozen sections and biopsies.
  • Maintain laboratory documentation and quality control standards.
  • Work with routine anatomical pathology specimens in a hospital setting.
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience as a Histology Tech.
  • ASCP-HT certification required (or equivalent).
  • Strong proficiency in embedding, microtomy, and staining.
  • Experience with frozen sections, grossing, and special stains highly preferred.
Required Technical Skills
  • Tissue Processing: Automatic tissue processors, dehydration, decalcification, and GI processing.
  • Embedding & Microtomy: Paraffin wax, frozen sections, hard/fatty tissue.
  • Staining: H&E, PAS, Giemsa, IHC, special stains.
  • Cytology: Ascitic, bronchial, spinal, urine, cytolyt, PAP, iron, and GMS staining.
  • Fixatives: Formalin, coagulant/non-coagulant, additive fixatives.
  • Specimen Types: Biopsies, excisions, smears, and squash preparations.
