Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary
The CST Clinical Educator designs, delivers and assesses learning activities and curriculums related to clinical competencies, departmental policies, regulatory requirements, and use of information technologies applicable to the operating room and sterile processing departments.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Participates in the development, coordination, and delivery of new staff orientation, as well as orientation for experienced CST and CRCST hires in the operating room and sterile processing department.
• Designs, delivers, and assesses learning activities and curriculums related to clinical competencies, departmental policies, regulatory requirements, and use of information technologies.
• Acts as a clinical resource for perioperative and instrument reprocessing CSTs and CRCSTs, using evidence-based knowledge and standards.
• Coordinates the design, planning, execution and evaluation of OR and SPD staff training to maintain consistent practices and standards set by regulatory and professional organizations including AST, AORN, AAMI, JCAHO, FDA, CDC, and OSHA.
• Collaborates with managers and staff to assess the learning needs and competencies of staff.
• Assists staff in the evaluation of current practice through quality and performance improvement measures.
• Establishes and monitors competencies for all aspects of instrument handling, utilization, decontamination, and sterilization.
• Collaborates with Periop Clinical Educator, Perioperative Manager, and SPD Manager to develop monthly and annual department education plans.
• Assists staff members in assessing their individual learning needs and styles.
Job Requirements
• CST certification requiring CRCST within 1 year; CIS certification in 2 years.
• Related hospital experience.
• Current Heartsaver CPR and AED required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Knowledge of CST and sterile processing education requirements as it relates to hospital programs, AST, AAMI, State Department of Health, AORN, and JCAHO.
• Functions independently; possesses strong conflict resolution, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions with minimal supervision to complete deadlines.
