POSITION: Senior Acquisition Specialist
LOCATION: El Segundo, CA
REQUIRED SECURITY CLEARANCE:โ€ฏActive TSI with SCI eligibility
POSITION TYPE/STANDARD WORK HOURS:โ€ฏFull time, 40 hours
THE OPPORTUNITY:
Upon award, BTAS will be filling potential openings for the Space Systems Command (SSC). SSC plays a critical role in advancing the United States's space capabilities, delivering cutting-edge solutions to protect and enhance national security. SSC/SZBC specializes in highly classified Space Domain Awareness (SDA) systems, Defensive and Offensive Space Control (DSC/OSC) capabilities, and space test range assets to support the Department of Defenseโ€™s (DoD) current and future operational needs.
As a leader in space technology, SSC/SZ-BC is responsible for the development, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment of mission-critical systems spanning the entire acquisition life cycle. These efforts ensure the United States Space Force (USSF) and its mission partners maintain a strategic advantage in space operations. This position will support multiple SSC/SZ-BC programs, as well as other initiatives across the Space Force, Air Force, and allied organizations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide space acquisitions, engineering, operations, and technical support for all stages of the acquisition life cycle.
  • Support program acquisition efforts for advanced technology, concept development, and integration activities.
  • Advise the government on cost, schedule, and performance matters.
  • Draft and revise Joint Capabilities Integrated Development System (JCIDS) and acquisition documents, including:
    • Initial Capability Documents
    • Interface Control Documents
    • Capability Development, Production, and Requirements Documents
    • Milestone documentation, Acquisition Strategies, and Analysis of Alternatives
    • Concept of Operations, Memorandums of Agreement/Understanding
    • Technical and Systems Requirement Documents, Defense Acquisition Board documentation
    • Technical Evaluations, System Specifications, enabling concepts, training material, briefings, white papers, reports, and analysis results
  • Ensure all documentation complies with the latest government guidance (e.g., MIL-STD).
  • Provide draft technical and programmatic status reports on individual programs or the portfolio in coordination with the government program manager.
  • Identify and recommend acquisition process improvements and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in building and maintaining a government risk program, including risk identification, process definition, and technical risk mitigation planning.
  • Support financial management, including commitments, obligations, expenditures, and earned value management analysis for defense contracts.
  • Provide Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) support, including:
    • Congressional reporting and fiscal year planning
    • Continuing resolution management
    • Unfunded requirement development and submittal
    • End-of-year funding actions and Program Objective Memorandum (POM) development
  • Offer subject matter expertise for Integrated Baseline Reviews and Business Financial Reviews, ensuring alignment with government best practices.
  • Monitor program schedules, acquisition implementation, and requirement shortfalls.
  • Maintain and update acquisition reports by integrating program execution data with baselines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with program management for ACAT-like weapon systems, in particular managing the planning, programming, budgeting, and execution of funds
  • Highly knowledgeable in the fields of Space Force financial management
  • Prior program management or finance experience
  • Experience with building acquisition strategies and programmatic documentation
  • Ten or more yearsโ€™ experience in this type of position or program is required. MA/MS degree required; however, a BA/BS degree is acceptable if the candidate possesses at least 12 years of experience in this type of position or program. The Materiel Leader may also waive the MA/MS requirement
  • Requires experience with CCaR and Microsoft Project
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not supervise the work of others.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able toโ€ฏoperate a computer and other standard office equipment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position, 80%.
TRAVEL:
Little if any travel is required.

COMPENSATION / SALARY RANGE:
BTASโ€ฏadheres to federal, state, and local regulations. This is a Full-Time, Salary, Exempt position. The following salary range is what we reasonably expect to pay but is contingent and subject to a variety of factors, including but not limited to years of experience, education, certification(s), training, specialized skills, responsibilities, etc.
SALARY RANGE:โ€ฏ$111,000 - $221,000 Annual Salary
