Job description

Job Summary:
Google is a leading technology company focused on transforming how billions of users connect and interact with information. They are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to work on critical projects related to building and securing sovereign cloud platforms, ensuring reliability and efficiency of operational systems.
Responsibilities:
• Engage in and improve the whole life-cycle of Google Public Sector air-gapped services from inception and design, through to deployment, operation and refinement.
• Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning and launch reviews.
• Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health.
• Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation, and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.
• Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Must be a US Citizen to meet customer and compliance requirements, including potential access to classified information.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
• 3 years of experience in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems.
• 3 years of experience leading projects.
• Active, or the ability to obtain, Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
Preferred:
• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 3 years of experience working with algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis and software design.
• 2 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, and experience with compute technologies, storage, and hardware architecture.
• Experience leading project teams and setting technical direction.
