Huntington Health in Pasadena, California is inviting applications for a Board Certified Clinical Pathologist to join our team as Director of the Clinical Laboratory and Blood Banking/Transfusion Services.

Candidates must hold an M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or D.O. degree, be eligible to obtain or already hold an active California State Medical License and be board certified by the American Board of Pathology in Clinical Pathology. American Board of Pathology certification in Blood Banking / Transfusion Medicine or previous clinical experience in transfusion medicine is required. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience or formal training/certification in Clinical Microbiology and/or Clinical Chemistry and/or Hematopathology. Previous administrative experience with at least 3 years of post-training clinical practice is desired but recent graduates with a strong clinical pathology background will be considered.

This full-time clinical position will provide medical oversight and call coverage of blood banking/transfusion services (dispenses 10,000 blood products per year), of a hospital based donor center program (4,000 collections annually) and of the general laboratory including Clinical Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Immunology and Microbiology for primarily inpatient laboratory operations at a community hospital. Applicants should provide leadership to the laboratory staff, participate in operational process improvements, work in administrative areas and regulatory compliance, and demonstrate interest in interprofessional collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, clinical lab scientists, nurses and administrative leadership. Teaching opportunities are also available if desired. Successful candidates will provide guidance for all clinical pathology testing and quality initiatives as well as serve as a consultant and resource for the medical staff regarding interpretation of and best practices for test and blood product utilization. Additional opportunities for leadership within the department, including serving as CLIA Laboratory Director, may be available for interested candidates in the future.
