What is a 1099 SLP teletherapy?

A 1099 SLP teletherapy position refers to a speech-language pathologist (SLP) who works as an independent contractor (not an employee) providing speech therapy services remotely, usually via video conferencing. The '1099' designation means that the SLP is responsible for their own taxes and does not receive employment benefits like health insurance or paid time off. Teletherapy allows SLPs to work with clients from various locations, often offering greater flexibility and autonomy. This setup is popular in schools and private practices looking to expand access to speech services.

As a 1099 SLP Teletherapy provider, you may encounter challenges such as maintaining student engagement remotely, managing your own schedule, and navigating technical issues. Building strong rapport through creative activities, setting clear routines, and ensuring reliable technology help address these hurdles. Additionally, since you're an independent contractor, staying organized with documentation, billing, and licensure requirements is essential for success. Connecting with other remote SLPs for support and resources can also make a significant difference.
