Job description

Soundview Consultants (SVC), a Trinity Consultants team, is a respected environmental firm with over 15 years of service in the Pacific Northwest. We specialize in land and marine use planning, permitting, and ecological assessments near wetlands, streams, and shorelines. Our team supports diverse clients across the Puget Sound region with expertise, integrity, and a collaborative spirit.

Soundview Consultants is adding a Staff Scientist to add to our Northwest team! This position, based out of our Gig Harbor or Mount Vernon office, will support Trinity Consultants wetland resource program and related projects across Washington and into neighboring states. The Staff Scientist is a professional scientist with background in wetland science, fish/wildlife biology, geology, ecology, or related earth sciences who supports project delivery through field investigations, data collection/analysis, technical writing, permit coordination, and collaboration with project teams. As experience increases, the Staff Scientist progresses from task execution with close guidance to leading elements of fieldwork and documentation.

What will I be doing?

  • Prepare drafts of Wetland Assessment Reports, Biological Evaluations, JARPAs, Technical Memoranda, Habitat Assessments, and related deliverables.
  • Research applicable codes and background information and summarize findings to support project analyses.
  • Submit and track permits; complete agency requirements and maintain organized project records.
  • Plan and mobilize for site visits and client meetings; maintain project awareness through documentation.
  • Conduct fieldwork including observing/recording soils, vegetation, hydrology, collecting photographs, excavating soil pits, and completing data forms.
  • Conduct wetland and OHW delineations and habitat assessments.
  • Adhere to all company health & safety procedures and policies.

What qualifications are required for this role?

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Fisheries, Ecology, Botany, Geology, or related discipline required.
  • 0–6 years of relevant training, volunteer work, or professional experience.
  • 2–8 relevant certifications or training classes preferred, including wetland science assessment/delineation methods.
  • Ability to work in both field and office settings and meet deadlines with increasing independence.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office; GIS/GPS experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

The hour rate for this position is $26.00 – $33.50 per year depending on education and experience.
