Job Overview:

The Assistant Project Manager, is responsible for supporting and managing electrical projects from inception to completion. Your primary objective will be to ensure the successful execution of electrical projects, including planning, organizing, and coordinating activities related to design, testing, and commissioning. You will collaborate with internal teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to deliver projects on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality standards and safety regulations.  This position can serve as a subordinate Project Manager to a Project Manager or Sr. Project Manager, or can operate independently depending on skill level.  The position is intended to better prepare Project Manager candidates to fully fulfill the role of a Project Manager.


Key Responsibilities and Essential Tasks (previously named Roles, Responsibilities and Tasks):

Customer Service:

  • Respond to customer needs in a timely manner - same day response either by phone or email.
  • Resolve project issues or escalate as required to find resolution
  • Promote the company Vision, Mission, Purpose and Values at all times
  • Keep communication with Clients and proactively watch for future opportunities
  • Provide a quality project at the best value possible

Project Management:

  • Perform duties as outlined in the published Roles and Responsibility Matrix
  • Long Lead material procurement to minimize schedule and cost impacts
  • All required project documentation 
  • Identify and resolve problems as they arise
  • Ensure Quality Control program is in place on every assigned project 
  • Facilitate and coordinate work with all project required subcontracts and internal divisions
  • Manage Change Order Request estimating, negotiating and implementation 
  • Identify, mitigate and present all project related claims and notice of delay
  • Understand and provide comments during project contract review
  • Follow all project close-out requirements
  • Ensure project and Company safety measures and practices are followed at all times
  • Manage project finances including cash flow, CTC (Cost to Complete) Forecasting, and cost projecting.
  • Identify early financial indicators and drive change where necessary to better the financial outcome of the project.
  • Review contracts and subcontracts and manage revisions with Contractor(s) and Subcontractor(s)
  • Manage and execute the project contracts and subcontracts.
  • Manage Subcontractors
  • Execute Major Purchases (Equipment, Material and Subcontractors) including development and execution of buyout strategy in a way to enhance margin, mitigate risk and avoid project delays.
  • Prepare project controls including budget development and set-up, budget management.
  • Prepare and manage Schedule of Values in a manner that ensures positive project cashflow.
  • Manage Project Profitability
  • Predictive analysis of revenue, cost, margin and cashflow forecasting
  • Regularly visit project jobsite to evaluate quality, progress and safety performance as well as maintain connectivity with field leadership, the client and the project.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external peers, clients, partners and trade partners.

Material Management:

  • Coordinate major buyouts for projects with Pre-Award and Supply Chain
  • Review Submittals for accuracy and provide mark-ups as required
  • Subcontractor management (schedule, scope, budget)
  • Manage project purchasing
  • Mange project rentals

Management of Office support staff:

  • Manage day to day tasks of assigned Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, Field Engineers and Project Managers assigned to respective projects.
  • Provide direction, training, and leadership for your team
  • Assist with employee reviews
  • Manage and execute Corrective Action Plans as required
  • Manage vacations and overtime

Coordination with other departments:

  • Pre-Award
    • Perform budget/scope review with sales team prior to project turn over
  • Engineering
    • Set up and facilitate weekly design meetings
    • Provide information and feedback on Design/Build projects during design 
  • Project Accounting
    • Review and maintain job cost
    • Updating and understand monthly cost to complete (CTC) 
    • Budget management
    • Create and understand project Schedule of Values
  • Field Operations
    • Coordinate with field operations to ensure that all contract documents and constructive change documents are provided in a timely fashion to ensure project success.
    • Coordinate with field operations to ensure that long lead equipment and deliverables are onsite to perform work.
    • Coordinate with field supervision to understand financial impacts of labor performance.

Compensation:

Rex Moore pays hourly/salary rates commensurate with each employee’s knowledge, experience and skill level.  


Work environment: 

Project Managers typically work in an office environment, although they may occasionally visit worksites to observe a project or to meet with clients

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (previously named Qualifications):

  • A minimum of 4 years as a Project Engineer or similar work experience in the commercial electrical industry
  • Above Strong knowledge of electrical systems and their components
  • Strong computer skills and experience with basic computer programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Microsoft AX, Microsoft Project, etc.)
  • Strong in math and deductive reasoning
  • Strong letter writing skills
  • Ability to multi-task and take direction
  • Ability to motivate and train other team members

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to verbally communicate: convey detailed and accurate instructions and information.
  • Ability to hear with or without correction in order to receive and interpret detailed information.
  • Required to sit at a desk work station for long periods of time.
  • Push, pull, lift, and carry at least 10 pounds.
  • Frequently required to walk and stand. This position may involve infrequent site visits which will require the ability to walk on uneven surfaces, climb stairs and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Required to have visual acuity with or without correction in order to read contract documents, analyze data, view a computer monitor, and proof-read documents to identify errors.   
  • Required to use fingers and hands:  type using a computer keyboard, handle, feel, and reach.
  • May occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, and crouch.
