Job description

The Applications Engineer/ CNC Programmer creates, modifies, and verifies programs and setup sheets for CNC Mills operations. This role is essential in transforming engineering designs into precise, high-quality components through efficient programming, fixture design, and process optimization.

What You’ll Do:

  • Accurately and consistently document all performed tasks on appropriate records (work orders, inspection sheets, maintenance logs, etc.).
  • Interpret Engineering specifications, Drawings & GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Generate toolpaths, solid models, and drawings in CAD/CAM software.
  • Independently set up, prove out, troubleshoot, and optimize programs. Experience transitioning new programs into stable, repeatable production.
  • Develop and improve advanced CNC machining and inspection processes.
  • Expert troubleshooting skills involving machining processes, tooling, machine performance, workholding, chip control, dimensional variation, and process capability.
  • Serves as the technical authority for Swiss machining processes. Mentors programmers, manufacturing engineers, and machinists on advanced machining strategies and best practices.
  • Inspect documents for previously completed operation sign off and verify part counts before beginning any manufacturing operation. 
  • Perform required maintenance checks of equipment before beginning any manufacturing operation.  
  • Prior to use, ensure measuring equipment has been calibrated, is not beyond calibration date, and is in good working condition.
  • Follow established protocol to maintain ID & traceability of product and documentation. 
  • Reference applicable drawings, specifications, and Manufacturing Process Instructions before beginning any manufacturing operation.
  • Follow department Standard Process Instructions.
  • Provide responsive support in the production of close tolerance components.
  • Resolve machining related quality issues.
  • Create, modify, and verify programs for all shop equipment.
  • Design and program work holding fixtures for varying levels of production.
  • Reduce component cycle time by optimizing programs, cutting tools, and fixturing.
  • Create and maintain process documentation for legacy products.
  • Research, test, and implement new cutting tools, work holding, and programming technology.
  • Ensure all new CNC programs introduced comply with and support product flow through the facility.

What You'll Need:

  • AS Degree in Manufacturing Technology preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience working with various CAD/CAM software packages (Esprit/MasterCAM & Solidworks preferred), working with CNC equipment in a manufacturing environment.  Medical device manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Experience with various inspection methods including mechanical inspection and CMM inspection.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite, CAD, CAM).
