What is solar sales?

Solar sales professionals are individuals who specialize in selling solar energy systems and products to residential, commercial, or industrial customers. Their main responsibilities include educating potential clients about the benefits of solar power, evaluating customer needs, creating proposals, and guiding clients through the installation process. Solar sales representatives often work for solar installation companies or manufacturers, and need to stay updated on the latest solar technology, incentives, and financing options. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential in this role.

What do you do in solar sales?

In a solar sales job, you connect with potential customers to try to sell solar systems products, such as solar panels, solar roof shingles, and solar battery arrays. Your responsibilities are to consult with leads about their energy needs and suggest solar equipment that can improve their quality of life or lower their energy bill. You then educate prospective clients about these solar products, including the advantages and disadvantages of different solar technology systems. Your duties also include conducting an inspection of their property and providing a price quote for the installation of solar technology.

What are some common challenges faced in a solar sales role, and how can they be overcome?

Solar Sales professionals often encounter challenges such as educating customers about the long-term benefits of solar energy, navigating changing incentive programs, and competing with other renewable energy providers. Success in this role requires staying informed about local regulations, mastering effective communication to address customer concerns, and collaborating closely with installation and engineering teams to deliver accurate proposals. Building trust through transparency and ongoing learning can help overcome these obstacles and lead to a rewarding career in solar sales.

What is the difference between Solar Sales vs Solar Installer?

Solar Sales focuses on selling solar energy systems to clients, requiring sales skills and product knowledge. Solar Installers physically install solar panels and related equipment, requiring technical and construction skills. Both roles are essential in the solar industry but differ in daily tasks and required credentials.

How much money can you make from selling solar sales?

Solar sales representatives can earn a wide range of income, typically including a base salary plus commissions on sales. On average, they can make from $50,000 to over $100,000 annually, depending on experience, sales skills, and the size of deals closed. Top performers with strong networks and certifications can earn even higher incomes.

Is it hard to get into solar sales?

Solar sales is a sales role that often requires strong communication skills, knowledge of solar technology, and sometimes industry certifications. Entry can be competitive, but previous sales experience and a willingness to learn can improve chances of entering the field.

Job description

Senior Solar Sales Consultant

Pro West Solar Systems (Pro West Electrical Inc.)

Location: Edmonton, AB and surrounding areas

Work Setting: Field-based with customer appointments throughout Edmonton and surrounding areas

Job Type: Contractor

Experienced Sales Professionals Wanted

Pro West Solar Systems is part of Pro West Electrical, a growing Edmonton-area company backed by experienced electrical contracting and operational teams.

We are looking for an experienced sales professional who knows how to manage a sales process from the first conversation through the close, consistently follows up, uses a CRM effectively, and can guide homeowners through a higher-value purchasing decision.

This role is designed for someone who already has a strong sales foundation and wants the opportunity to produce, develop professionally, and potentially take on greater responsibility as the solar division grows.

Solar experience is not required. Strong sales experience is.

What You'll Do

  • Meet with homeowners through scheduled consultations.
  • Qualify opportunities and understand customer needs, priorities, and goals.
  • Conduct consultative sales conversations and present solar solutions clearly.
  • Explain project value and answer customer questions.
  • Handle concerns and objections professionally.
  • Guide qualified customers through the full decision-making and sales process.
  • Present proposals and secure signed agreements.
  • Maintain consistent follow-up throughout longer sales cycles.
  • Manage an active pipeline and keep CRM information, notes, tasks, and next steps accurate.
  • Coordinate with design, operations, and installation teams to ensure a complete and accurate handoff after the sale.
  • Represent Pro West professionally and protect customer trust throughout the process.
  • Participate in sales training, coaching, role play, and ongoing professional development.
  • Contribute ideas and best practices that can improve sales execution as the team grows.

What We're Looking For

  • 4+ years of consistent consultative sales experience in a professional, performance-driven environment.
  • Proven history of meeting or exceeding sales targets, with measurable results you can discuss.
  • Experience managing and closing a full sales cycle, including discovery, presentation, objection handling, follow-up, negotiation, and closing.
  • Demonstrated success selling higher-value products or services, preferably in B2C, in-home, home improvement, construction, energy, electrical, HVAC, roofing, solar, or another similar environment.
  • Experience working with defined sales processes, targets, KPIs, CRM systems, and pipeline management.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to explain technical or higher-value solutions clearly to homeowners.
  • Strong follow-up and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with design, operations, installation, and leadership teams.
  • A consistent sales-performance history and evidence of professional growth.
  • Experience mentoring, training, or supporting other sales professionals is an asset.
  • Valid driver's licence, reliable transportation, and availability for customer appointments throughout Edmonton and surrounding areas, including evenings and weekends when required.

The Right Candidate

You are comfortable being measured by results, but you understand that strong sales are built on more than closing.

You know how to:

  • Ask good questions before presenting a solution.
  • Build trust without using pressure tactics.
  • Follow up when a customer needs time to make a decision.
  • Keep your pipeline organized and visible.
  • Set accurate customer expectations.
  • Protect the quality of the handoff after the sale.
  • Receive coaching and continuously improve your sales skills.
  • Contribute positively to a team rather than operating independently of the process.

Experience helping train or develop other salespeople is a plus, particularly for candidates interested in future sales leadership opportunities.

Compensation

Target first-year earnings: 75,000 to 115,000+ depending on performance.

This is a contractor opportunity with performance-based compensation. The applicable compensation structure and commission details will be explained clearly during the hiring process.

Schedule

Flexible schedule based on customer appointments and business needs.

Evening and weekend availability may be required.

Peak solar season typically runs from March through November.

Training and Growth

Pro West provides training on its solar products, solutions, systems, and internal processes.

You will also have access to ongoing sales coaching and professional development.

High-performing sales professionals may have opportunities to take on additional responsibility, mentor others, and progress toward sales leadership as the solar division develops.

Why Join Pro West Solar Systems?

  • Established local company with experienced electrical, design, and installation teams.
  • Growing solar division and expanding market opportunity.
  • Support from operations and installation teams after the sale.
  • Performance-driven environment.
  • Ongoing sales coaching and development.
  • Opportunity to contribute to a growing sales organization.
  • Potential path toward greater responsibility and future sales leadership.

If you are an experienced sales professional with a proven record of performance and want an opportunity where you can produce, improve, and potentially grow into greater responsibility, we would like to hear from you.

Please apply through Indeed with your resume and include a brief summary of your sales experience and measurable results.
