About the Job

The Solar Installer will install photovoltaic (PV) solar systems on roof tops and other structures for residential homes, small businesses and commercial properties throughout the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Read and interpret plan sets to inform the installation process
  • Assemble, install and maintain PV solar systems in compliance with site assessment and schematics
  • Operate micro-inverter, optimizer and string solar systems
  • Perform minor electrical work as it relates to panel installation
  • Connect solar system to the electric grid using proper grounding systems and controls
  • Assess job sites to identify and resolve any potential hazards
  • Weatherproof the solar installation in accordance with local safety regulations and the manufacturer specifications
  • Conduct work within OSHA safety standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned
About You
  • High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Solar Installation Certification from a Training Program or Accredited Institution
  • Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record

Physical Requirements of the Job

Solar Installers are required to perform physically demanding labor, often in varied weather conditions and at significant heights. The role requires strength, endurance, agility, and comfort with working on rooftops or in cramped spaces. Frequently lifting and moving heavy equipment, with requirements often stating the ability to lift 50 to 75+ pounds. Working full, active days in outdoor environments. Using abdominal and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods. Comfort with working on ladders, rooftops, or scaffolding (sometimes 40+ feet high). Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching. Regularly walking, standing, and maintaining balance on uneven or sloped surfaces. Repeating the same movements, such as drilling, lifting, or tightening bolts. Using hands and fingers to grasp, handle, manipulate, and assemble small components, tools, or wiring. Ability to see details up close and at a distance, as well as the ability to distinguish between colors for electrical wiring. Working in hot, cold, wind, or rain. Occasional work in attics, basements, or tight crawl spaces. Able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) like harnesses, hard hats, safety glasses, and gloves.
