Job description

Senior EHS Specialist

Location: 100% Onsite – Raynham, MA (supports Raynham & Bridgewater facilities)

Position Summary

  • The Senior EHS Specialist will provide comprehensive Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) support and technical expertise to the Raynham and Bridgewater MedTech facilities. Under general supervision, this role will lead, plan, and implement safety programs aligned with corporate EHS strategy.
  • The specialist will establish and maintain robust processes for risk identification, evaluation, and hazard control, while partnering closely with Operations, R&D, and Office teams. This position also ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal J&J EHS standards.
  • You will conduct assessments, analyze data, recommend strategic improvements, and drive change across the sites. The role also participates on cross-functional teams to resolve safety issues and advance the overall safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply expert knowledge of applicable safety regulations (OSHA, state/local codes) and reporting requirements.
  • Partner with site business leaders on compliance policies, safety practices, and risk management.
  • Coordinate EHS teams and committees (Incident Response, EHS Champions, Lab Safety, Site Inspections).
  • Provide safety technical support through Management of Change for facility construction, new equipment, and new product development.
  • Lead the electronic Permit-to-Work (ePTW) project rollout targeted for October 2024.
  • Implement contractor safety and permit-to-work programs ensuring risk controls and compliance.
  • Develop and deliver technical safety training, awareness programs, and hazard-based learning sessions.
  • Conduct annual program reviews; identify gaps, create action plans, lead corrective implementation.
  • Perform internal audits focused on safety compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Provide Industrial Hygiene support using relevant testing and monitoring equipment.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related science preferred).
  • Minimum 4+ years of relevant EHS experience.
  • Strong knowledge of identifying, evaluating, and controlling workplace risks.
  • Technical understanding of federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
  • Proven project leadership with ability to manage schedules and budgets.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, data analysis, reporting).
  • Preferred:
  • Certifications: CSP, CIH, CHMM.
  • Experience with EHS reporting/tracking systems.
  • Technical depth in safety areas such as: contractor safety, ergonomics, electrical safety, machine safety, or biosafety.
  • Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing/production environment.

Physical Demands & Work Conditions

  • Computer work up to 6 hours/day.
  • Walking/standing up to 4 hours/day.
  • Must lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
  • Required PPE: Safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection.
  • Familiarity with Industrial Hygiene equipment (noise dosimeters, sampling pumps, databases).

Travel

  • Up to 5% domestic travel, including frequent travel to Bridgewater, MA.
