Job description

POSITION SUMMARYThe Software Engineer 1 will build, test, and ship software in a modern, AI-augmented engineering environment, partnering with coding agents and AI tooling as a daily part of the development workflow. Code, test, debug, document, and maintain software with growing autonomy.
Contribute to small and large projects within a product-centric, agile scrum team that values aggressive curiosity, fast feedback, and continuous learning. Collaborate closely with engineers, product owners, SREs, and Client Experience to deliver software that meaningfully improves the indirect tax compliance experience for IGEN's clients.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Analyze requirements, design, code, debug, and review applications, leveraging AI coding agents and modern developer tooling to amplify productivity and quality
  • Apply unit, integration, and regression testing techniques to ensure quality of deployed applications, contributing to a strong test-first engineering culture
  • Participate fully in a product-centric, agile scrum team - including sprint planning, daily standups, refinement, reviews, and retrospectives - with a continuous-delivery mindset
  • Continually improve applications through performance tuning, balancing, usability, and automation
  • Support, maintain and document developed applications and interfaces
  • Integrate software with existing systems
  • Evaluate and experiment with new technologies, frameworks, and AI tooling, bringing well-reasoned recommendations back to the team

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • 1-3 years of professional software engineering experience, OR a Bachelor's degree in Computer

    Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with relevant internship, project, or research

    experience

  • Educational or work experience designing and implementing software solutions in one or more

    modern languages such as C#, TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, or Java

  • Working knowledge of modern web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, REST APIs);

    exposure to .NET, ASP.NET, or modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue) is welcome

  • Exposure to building applications connected to relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL)

    and a working understanding of basic SQL

  • Exposure to programming techniques, algorithms, data structures, object-oriented programming, version control (Git), and Agile methodologies

  • Educational or hands-on experience using AI coding agents and assistants (such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar tools) as part of the software development workflow

  • Aggressive intellectual curiosity - demonstrated through self-directed learning, side projects, open-source contributions, technical writing, or other evidence of going beyond the assignment

  • Strong written and verbal communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Ability to work both independently and as a contributing member of a collaborative scrum team

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a product-centric, agile scrum environment with product owners, designers, and engineers collaborating on a shared backlog

  • Exposure to a best-in-class software engineering culture - code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and a strong bias toward shipping

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure preferred), containerization, and modern DevOps practices

  • Interest in or exposure to indirect tax, financial services, regulated SaaS, or other compliance-driven domains
