Job description

Amazon Robotics is seeking a talented and motivated Software Development Engineer to join our Software Automation and Technology/Tooling (SWAT) team. We are a software team embedded in the Software org of the SEE (Systems Engineering and Evaluation) organization, building the automation frameworks, control systems, and infrastructure that enable scalable, reliable testing of next-generation robotic systems.
As an SDE on this team, you will design and implement software that directly interfaces with hardware - writing control logic for test fixtures, coordinating multi-device test sequences, collecting and processing sensor data, and building the tooling that hardware engineers rely on daily. You will work hands-on with physical systems, bridging the gap between software and hardware to automate testing workflows at the component, subsystem, and full system level.
We're looking for someone with strong software development expertise who is energized by working close to hardware. Success in this role requires comfort with reading datasheets, comprehension of communication protocols (serial, CAN, EtherCAT, etc.), and writing software that controls and coordinates physical devices. Solid software fundamentals - clean architecture, testable code, and pragmatic design choices - are essential, as is passion for applying them in an environment where code moves motors, reads sensors, and validates real-world robotic systems.
Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Design and implement control and coordination software for hardware test fixtures and workcells
- Develop automation scripts and frameworks that interface directly with robotic hardware (sensors, actuators, motor controllers, PLCs)
- Build reliable data collection pipelines for test measurements and hardware telemetry
- Contribute to our Automation Platform (AP) - extending and improving joint tooling used across multiple product programs
- Partner closely with Hardware Test Engineers and Hardware Development Engineers to comprehend test requirements and translate them into automated solutions
- Participate in the full development lifecycle - design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operational facilitation of test infrastructure
A day in the life
On a typical day, you will work with hardware engineers and stakeholders to grasp test requirements, design control and coordination software, and drive execution on automation initiatives. You will:
- Develop and maintain software that directly controls test fixtures and uut hardware - writing sequences that coordinate sensors, actuators, and measurement devices to validate robotic systems.
- Partner with Hardware Test Engineers to translate test procedures into reliable, repeatable automation - working hands-on with physical hardware to debug, calibrate, and refine solutions.
- Contribute to the evolution of our joint Automation Platform (AP), improving tooling and libraries that the broader test engineering organization relys on. This work will have measurable impact on test coverage, throughput, and reliability.

3. Paid Time Off (PTO)
4. 401(k) Plan
If you are not sure that every qualification on the list above describes you exactly, we'd still love to hear from you! At Amazon, we value people with unique backgrounds, experiences, and skillsets. If you're passionate about this role and want to make an impact on a global scale, please apply!
