Software Program Managers are professionals who oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of software projects within an organization. They coordinate cross-functional teams, manage project timelines and budgets, and ensure that software products meet business goals and quality standards. Their role involves risk management, stakeholder communication, and resolving any issues that could impact project success. Software Program Managers act as a bridge between technical teams and business leaders to ensure alignment throughout the software development lifecycle.

How does a Software Program Manager typically collaborate with development and QA teams to ensure project success?

A Software Program Manager works closely with both development and QA teams to align project timelines, clarify requirements, and address roadblocks as they arise. They facilitate regular meetings, such as stand-ups or sprint reviews, to ensure everyone is on the same page and that priorities are being met. By acting as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, Program Managers help ensure that quality standards are maintained while deadlines are achieved. Effective communication and proactive issue resolution are key aspects of their collaboration with these teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Software Program Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Software Program Manager, you need expertise in project management, software development life cycles, and a relevant degree, often complemented by experience in leading technical teams. Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Microsoft Project, and Agile or Scrum certifications is typically required for planning and tracking progress. Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving abilities are crucial soft skills for aligning teams and managing expectations. These competencies are vital to deliver projects on time, within scope, and to ensure effective collaboration among cross-functional teams.

Job description

Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, empowering legal professionals and law firms of every size to work smarter, faster, and more securely.

We are transforming the legal experience for all by bettering the lives of legal professionals while increasing access to justice.

Summary:

We are currently seeking aSenior Software Developer, Enterprise Systemsto join our team. This role is available to candidates across our Canadian hubs (Burnaby, Calgary, or Toronto). All hub-based Clions are expected to be in the office for a minimum of twice per week on one of our Anchor Days.

What your team does

The Enterprise Systems team sits within Engineering at Clio, with a mission to accelerate the business by building and maintaining the internal tools and applications that power Clio's operational teams. We work at the intersection of engineering and business operations, closing the gaps that commercial SaaS tools leave behind. We report into the Senior Manager, Enterprise Systems and take pride in building clean, well-reasoned software - whether that's a data pipeline processing thousands of records or a web application that Finance relies on every day.

What you'll work on
  • Design, build, and maintain full-stack internal applications used by teams across Clio, including Finance, GTM, and other operational functions.

  • Develop rules-based data processing pipelines that automate workflows and close gaps in our commercial SaaS tooling.

  • Own features end-to-end: from requirements gathering with internal stakeholders through to deployment and ongoing support.

  • Collaborate with business teams to understand their operational needs and translate them into well-scoped, maintainable software solutions.

What you'll bring
  • Strong experience in Ruby on Rails; candidates with a Python background will also be considered.

  • Full-stack development capability - comfortable owning the backend, frontend, and data layer of an application.

  • Experience building and maintaining data processing workflows, particularly those involving business rules, transformations, or integrations with third-party APIs.

  • A track record of translating ambiguous business requirements into clean, well-tested software.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with business stakeholders across teams like Finance and GTM.

  • Comfort working with relational databases, including writing and optimizing SQL.

  • Strong engineering fundamentals: code review, testing, CI/CD, and documentation.

  • A keen interest in improving your craft by using AI.

Serious bonus points if you have:
  • Familiarity with integrating commercial SaaS platforms (e.g., Salesforce, NetSuite, Workato) via APIs or ETL workflows.

  • Experience building internal tooling or enterprise systems in a product-driven SaaS company.

  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS.

This is a new role.

  • Flexible time off policy, with an encouraged 20 days off per year.

  • $2000 annual counseling benefit

  • RRSP matching and RESP contribution

  • Clioversary recognition program with special acknowledgement at 3, 5, 7, and 10 years
