As a Senior Software Engineering Manager within PNC's Corporate & Institutional Banking (C&IB) organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA or Dallas, TX or Overland Park, Kansas or Littlerock, AK. This role provides senior level leadership for the strategy, technical direction, and delivery of business-critical digital banking platforms.
The Software Engineering Manager Sr. is accountable for technical leadership, architecture oversight, people management, and execution across multiple agile teams. This role partners closely with architecture, product, security, infrastructure, and risk stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient solutions aligned with enterprise standards.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Architecture Leadership
• Provide senior level technical leadership and architectural oversight for complex, enterprise scale platforms.
• Lead architecture design sessions and design reviews, ensuring alignment to non functional requirements including availability, scalability, performance, resiliency, and security.
• Guide teams on architectural tradeoffs and implementation approaches to ensure long term maintainability and operational stability.
• Lead technical direction for teams building highly scalable, event driven systems using modern data streaming, container, and cloud native technologies.
• Translate complex technical concepts, risks, and options into clear, business focused communication for senior leadership and executive audiences.
• Comfortably present to senior leadership and C level stakeholders, representing technical strategy, delivery status, risks, and investment needs.
Delivery & Execution
• Provide strategic oversight for the design, development, and continuous enhancement of the platform, ensuring alignment with business objectives and enterprise architecture standards.
• Manage and lead development efforts for a modern, cloud native technology ecosystem leveraging cutting edge platforms and technologies, including containerized microservices, event driven architectures (Kafka), and NoSQL data stores (MongoDB), deployed on OpenShift/Kubernetes.
• Oversee and coordinate delivery across multiple scrum teams simultaneously, managing dependencies, release planning, and execution risks.
• Drive adoption and maturity of Agile, DevSecOps, and reliability practices, balancing delivery speed with quality, security, and compliance requirements.
People Leadership
• Lead, mentor, and develop a global organization of engineers, technical leads, business systems analysts, and vendor partners.
• Own talent strategy including hiring, coaching, performance management, and development of future technical leaders.
• Foster a culture of transparent, honest, and respectful communication, ensuring clarity and trust both upward to leadership and downward to teams.
Operational Excellence & Stakeholder Partnership
• Serve as the senior escalation point for platform issues and major incidents, ensuring effective resolution, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
• Partner with information security, infrastructure, and compliance teams to ensure platforms meet regulatory, audit, and risk management expectations.
• Collaborate with business and product stakeholders to translate strategy into executable technology roadmaps.
Qualifications
Required
• 7+ years of progressive experience in software engineering or application management.
• 3+ years of experience in a senior technical leadership or people management role.
• Strong technical background in .NET based platforms, microservices architecture, enterprise integration, and cloud native deployments (OpenShift, Kubernetes, AWS or equivalent).
• Demonstrated experience leading distributed teams and managing delivery across multiple agile teams.
• Proven ability to lead architecture discussions and influence technical direction across teams and stakeholders.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organization, including executive leadership.
Preferred
• Experience supporting payments platforms or payment processing systems in a regulated financial services environment.
• Experience working in large scale enterprise or financial services organizations.
