This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. About the Role

As part of a hardworking team, you will contribute to the design of flight software for future space vehicles. You will be responsible for leading the team tasked with developing fault-tolerant flight software responsible for the overall command and control of an autonomous space vehicle. This includes defining architectures and requirements, coordination of team activities, and leadership of development and verification planning.

These positions will directly impact the history of space exploration, and your dedicated commitment and detailed attention will further the cause of safe and repeatable spaceflight. You will create and maintain drawings and diagrams for power distribution, system grounding and bonding.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of application software requirements in coordination with systems engineering and subsystem owners
  • Evaluate, decompose, and create requirements for safety-critical, real-time operating systems
  • Lead trade studies on platform software architecture and implementation
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers in software development practices
  • Oversee the authoring of unit tests, documentation, and lead code reviews
  • Direct the development and implementation of subsystem applications and fault management for various space vehicles
  • Collaborate with the vehicle Fault Management and Autonomy Lead to establish integrated vehicle autonomous behaviors, modes, and states
  • Provide technical leadership for the team developing vehicle and subsystem management applications
  • Oversee efforts to integrate application flight software components, create and run unit tests, validate on Hardware-in-the-Loop and simulation environments
  • Partner with the integrated product manager to identify and track program and technical risk, develop and maintain schedule, resource allocation, and budget
  • Establish and implement software development best practices
Required Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Advanced understanding of software development concepts and methodologies
  • Significant experience in defining and/or verifying low-level software structure, inter-process communication, and scheduling
  • Proven software development skills in real-time embedded systems, particularly in C/C++
  • Demonstrated leadership in build automation, continuous integration, configuration management, verification, deployment of software
  • Advanced debugging skills at the software/hardware boundary
  • Thorough knowledge of NPR 7150.2, DO-178, or other safety-critical software standard
Desired Qualifications
  • Successful candidates typically have 10+ years of software development experience
  • Experience leading teams in full life cycle software development of real-time embedded systems, including system design and analysis, requirement capture and development, software implementation and verification, system integration, qualification, and releasing
  • Experience directing safety critical product development utilizing NPR 7150.2, DO-178, or other safety-critical software standard
  • Expertise with Embedded Linux or equivalent real-time operating systems
  • Experience managing integrated hardware-in-the-loop lab environments
  • Proven track record working on avionics, satellite, or space flight systems

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $197,529.00 - $276,539.55
